Αιωνία τους η μνήμη. 🇨🇾
Με συγκίνηση και βαθύ σεβασμό, ο πάτερ Αμφιλόχιος τέλεσε τρισάγιο στα Φυλακισμένα Μνήματα, αποτίοντας φόρο τιμής στους ήρωες της ΕΟΚΑ που θυσίασαν τη ζωή τους για την ελευθερία της Κύπρου. Μέσα σε έναν χώρο φορτισμένο με ιστορία, πίστη και αγώνα, υψώθηκε προσευχή για την ανάπαυση των ψυχών τους και για να παραμένει άσβεστη η μνήμη και η θυσία τους στις επόμενες γενιές.
Τα Φυλακισμένα Μνήματα βρίσκονται στις Κεντρικές Φυλακές Λευκωσίας και αποτελούν έναν από τους πιο ιερούς τόπους της σύγχρονης κυπριακής ιστορίας. Εκεί τάφηκαν οι αγωνιστές της ΕΟΚΑ που εκτελέστηκαν από τους Άγγλους αποικιοκράτες κατά την περίοδο 1955–1959, καθώς και άλλοι ήρωες που έπεσαν στον απελευθερωτικό αγώνα. Ο χώρος ονομάστηκε έτσι επειδή οι τάφοι βρίσκονται εντός των φυλακών, πίσω από κλειστά τείχη, με σκοπό τότε να αποτραπούν οι λαϊκές εκδηλώσεις τιμής. Αντί όμως να σβήσει η μνήμη τους, τα Φυλακισμένα Μνήματα έγιναν αιώνιο σύμβολο θυσίας, αξιοπρέπειας και ελευθερίας για τον κυπριακό ελληνισμό.

With deep emotion and profound respect, Father Amfilochios visited the Imprisoned Graves in Cyprus and performed a Trisagion memorial service in honor of the heroes of EOKA who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of Cyprus. In a place filled with history, faith, and sacrifice, prayers were offered for the repose of their souls and for the preservation of their memory through future generations.
The Imprisoned Graves are located within the Central Prisons of Nicosia and are considered one of the most sacred sites of modern Cypriot history. There lie the EOKA fighters who were executed by the British colonial authorities during the liberation struggle of 1955–1959, along with other heroes who gave their lives for Cyprus. The site was named “Imprisoned Graves” because the tombs were built inside the prison walls in an attempt to prevent public funerals and demonstrations of honor. Instead of silencing their memory, however, the Imprisoned Graves became an eternal symbol of sacrifice, dignity, courage, and freedom for the people of Cyprus.

Today, we pause to remember and honour the courage, sacrifice, and spirit of all those who served and gave their lives for freedom.

On this ANZAC Day, we reflect not only on the history of Australia and New Zealand, but also on the shared values of bravery, unity, and resilience that connect communities across cultures — including the contribution and friendship of the Greek people during times of war.
