🌟 Member Leadership Network (MLN) Meeting 🌟

On 29 May, 26 leaders and community representatives came together for the Member Leadership Network (MLN) meeting.

We were pleased to welcome Gatluak from MBIE, who shared key findings from the Refugee Survey 2025, providing valuable insights into the experiences and needs of forced migrant-background communities across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Participants also received updates from ARCC and took part in the ARCC Evaluation for MLN – Meaningful Refugee Participation Project, contributing their perspectives on strengthening leadership and community engagement.

The meeting concluded with a shared dinner, offering an opportunity to connect, build relationships, and continue important conversations in a warm and welcoming environment.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making the meeting a success. Together, we continue to strengthen leadership and meaningful participation in our communities.

We are delighted to share that the Learning Community Hub programme was successfully completed on 16 May after 8 wonderful sessions together.

Throughout the programme, parents had the opportunity to learn more about the New Zealand education system, including NCEA, neurodiversity, university entrance and career pathways, wellbeing, parent portals, staying safe at school, literacy and numeracy, and many other important topics to better support their children’s learning journey.

We had over 100 parents registered, with around 40–45 parents and youth, and 20–25 children attending each session. Participants mainly came from the Sri Lankan, Syrian, and Afghan communities, creating a rich and welcoming multicultural environment.

A separate children’s programme was also run during each session, where children enjoyed learning and creative activities such as:
• Learning about local heroes during the ANZAC weekend
• New Zealand Sign Language activities
• Mother’s Day crafts and beads threading for mums
• Games and face painting
• Clay making and other creative activities

We would like to sincerely thank the Ministry of Education NZ for providing this valuable opportunity to our communities. Thank you also to all facilitators for delivering engaging and informative sessions, interpreters for bridging communication, childcare teachers for caring for the children, volunteers for their dedication, and caterers for providing delicious meals each week.

Most importantly, thank you to all the parents, youth, and children who participated and made this programme meaningful and successful. We are grateful for the connections built, knowledge shared, and community strengthened through this journey together. ❤️

✨ Women Leadership Network – Mother’s Day Special: Brew & Brush ✨

On 7th May, 23 amazing women came together for a special Mother’s Day edition of our Women Leadership Network gathering — Brew & Brush at Karigar Lane, a beautiful place whose name means artisan. 🎨☕🌱

The workshop was filled with creativity, laughter, and connection as women painted pots, shared conversations, and relaxed together over cups of coffee and tea. It was more than just a painting session — it was a meaningful bonding time where women could pause from busy schedules, express their creativity, and enjoy friendship and community in a warm and welcoming environment.

A big thank you to Karigar Lane for the wonderful service, kind staff, and lovely atmosphere that made the day even more special.

Moments like these remind us of the importance of connection, self-care, and creating spaces where women can support and encourage one another. 💛
