BLAKE inspires people to lead a sustainable future for Aotearoa. linktr.ee/blake_newzealand Sir Peter Blake was an inspiring and visionary kiwi leader.

BLAKE keeps Sir Peter's leadership legacy alive by recognising and celebrating leaders across all fields and pursuits through the BLAKE Leadership Awards and Young Leader Awards. These BLAKE Leaders, join a growing group of individuals who follow in the footsteps of Sir Peter and possess many of the characteristics admired in him. A life spent on the world's oceans instilled in Sir Peter Blake the certainty that action is needed to preserve and protect this precious resource. Today, BLAKE seeks to carry on his work through our environmental programmes. Our annual BLAKE Inspire empowers over 150 young kiwis and 90 primary school teachers with knowledge and confidence to take action on topical environmental issues with a further BLAKE Inspire programme for teachers. Every year we send up to 15 BLAKE Ambassadors on incredible environmental opportunities. Students and teachers from BLAKE Inspire are then eligible for an experience with BLAKE Expeditions.

Today would have marked the 78th birthday of Sir Peter Blake, born on 1 October 1948.

A true Kiwi legend, and one of the worlds most celebrated yachtsmen, who grew up in Bayswater, New Zealand.

Over a 30-year career, he won every major bluewater race on the planet, claimed the America's Cup and successfully defended it. He also smashed the record for the fastest non-stop circumnavigation of the globe under sail.

He later channeled his energy into his passion for protecting the environment, setting out on a mission to reignite people's care for it through adventure, participation, education and enjoyment.

We're honored to continue his environmental legacy at BLAKE today, with each of our programmes grounded in his vision to inspire all generations to take better care of our planet.

Last year we introduced the first “group award” at the BLAKE Awards, with the Ngā Kura / Schools category.
It was incredible seeing the mahi being carried out at schools across New Zealand, and in particular Stratford Primary School who received the award.

We can’t wait to see what school is next…
