📨Receiving feedback from the whānau we support is always a meaningful reminder of why we do this mahi.

Recently, one of the tangata supported through our Anga Pae Tawhiti service sent a message to one of our kaimahi Rahia that perfectly captures the power of connection, trust and genuine support.

At Te Pā, we are privileged to walk alongside people as they navigate challenges, opportunities, and new beginnings. Through Anga Pae Tawhiti, Rahia works with returned tangata, supporting them as they reconnect, rebuild, and create pathways forward for themselves and their whānau.

While messages like this acknowledge the support provided, they also remind us that meaningful change comes from the determination, courage and commitment of the people we serve. It is the willingness of our whānau to trust the process, show up for themselves, and keep moving forward that makes this mahi possible.

To the tangata who shared these words, thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey. We are proud of the progress you have made and look forward to seeing what the future holds for you.

🌀🌿We attended the ACE Aotearoa Adult Community Educators award ceremony at Te Waipuna Lodge in Mt Wellington.

We were honoured to be named the recipient of 2026 Innovative Programme of the Year Tangata Whenua, recognising the educational and cultural reconnection work used as the foundation of our service delivery.

This recognition reflects the commitment of our kaimahi and the impact of the mahi we continue to walk alongside with our whānau, particularly through our reintegration support and pathways of reconnection within our communities.

We are humbled to have been chosen and even more grateful to have shared space with such an inspiring collective of educators from across Aotearoa.

Thank you to the team at ACE Aotearoa for bringing together this incredible collaboration of educators over the past 3 days and for the outstanding mānaakitanga shown to all of us who were fortunate to be part of this beautiful Kaupapa.

‘Ia manuia le Vaiaso o le Gagana Sāmoa e te whānau🇼🇸

This week we celebrate our Samoan kaimahi and the language, culture and traditions they bring to our Te Pā whānau.

A special thank you to Suliana, our Samoan kaimahi who led our karakia this morning in Samoan and welcomed us to share in a hakari afterwards.

The theme for Samoan Language Week 2026 is “E afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o nu’u,” which translates to “From the high mountains come the blessings of the village.” The theme reflects the strength, guidance, and wisdom that support and uplift our communities.

Te Pā is proud to have Samoan kaimahi within our space. We are privileged to learn from them and to celebrate this beautiful week together.

Manuia Le vaiaso whānau😊🌱

How do you bring closure to a service that has touched the lives of nearly 3,000 individuals and their whānau over the past six years?✨

There is only one way Te Pā knows how to do this, by acknowledging the past, and by validating, affirming, and celebrating the lives of those we have had the privilege to walk alongside, and who in turn have touched our lives.

While we farewell some truly amazing kaimahi from this space, we are grateful to know that our whānau will continue to be supported by our partner organisation Ngāti Hine, who will carry on this important mahi with whānau in Te Tai Tokerau.

We are also thankful to have been able to redeploy some of our kaimahi into other areas across our services, ensuring their passion, commitment, and dedication continue to make a difference within our community.

To Rankin Herewini, for your quiet leadership, to your team, and to our partners Ngāti Hine and Kahui Tū Kaha, who have walked alongside us over the past six years, thank you for your commitment, support, and dedication in giving life to Te Hokinga Mai Raki.

We were delighted to host Acting Chief Executive of the New Zealand Department of Corrections Rachel Leota and Director Lynette Cave at whare Taurikura, one of our supported accommodation complexes for deportees🏘️

Taurikura, meaning a place of healing and restoration, is a kaupapa-driven housing initiative delivered through our service Anga Pae Tawhiti to support tāngata returning home to Aotearoa from all parts of the world. The complex consists of 16 studio units designed to provide safe, stable, and supportive accommodation for our whānau as they begin their reintegration journey.

This was developed in response to the growing need for culturally grounded support for returnees, Taurikura offers more than just housing. With shared kitchen, dining, and living spaces, alongside 24/7 support from live-in Kai Āwhina and dedicated navigators working one-on-one with residents, the focus is on restoring dignity, strengthening identity and creating pathways forward.

Last year alone, we supported more than 160 deportees in their resettlement back into Aotearoa/New Zealand. This whare reflects our commitment to ensuring our people are welcomed home with manaakitanga, compassion, and the support needed to heal, reconnect and thrive.

It was a privilege to share the vision behind Taurikura and the important work being carried out through Anga Pae Tawhiti to support some of our most vulnerable whānau as they transition home and rebuild their lives.

🗣️We’ll be at the Unitec Expo tomorrow. Come by and have a kōrero with some of our amazing kaimahi who will be there on the day. Keep an eye out for the Te Pā banner and come say hello.

If you have a loved one in the justice system who may need support, or someone returning to Auckland through deportation, our team is here to help. We work alongside whānau and individuals through a wide range of support services connected to the justice space.

We’d love to connect with you and share more about the mahi we do. See you there😊

We had the privilege of visiting a good friend of Te Pā, Tipare, at George FM Tipare played a big part in making this experience possible, and it was awesome to have her and her team welcome us and show our rangatahi around the station.

This visit was all about giving our rangatahi a new experience opening their eyes to the media world and what goes on behind the scenes. Our rangatahi have shared with us what they’re passionate about, and this opportunity was a way to nurture those interests and hopefully ignite something deeper within them.

As part of the Te Whitinga o Te Rā programme, we aim to create pathways and spaces where our rangatahi can explore, be creative, and see themselves in different futures. For them, this wasn’t just a tour it was a chance to step into a new world and start imagining what’s possible for them.

Thank you to Dean, Tipare and Sean for taking the time to take us around. We had a great time. Ngā mihi nunui 🌱
