Competitor applications are open 🇳🇿 Serving and former serving NZ Defence Force (NZDF) personnel who experienced significant injury, wound or illness during New Zealand Military Service are invited to compete as a member of the NZDF Team at Invictus Games 2027 (IG27).

The NZDF IG27 campaign provides a structured pathway of selection and training camps to compete in the NZDF Team at the Birmingham Invictus Games, 10 -17 July 2027.

Should you wish to apply, you are required to compete the following forms:

• Competitor Application Form including command input and submit it to [email protected] NLT 30 Jun 26

• Competitor Medical Summary including GP/Doctor input and submit it to [email protected] NLT 30 Jun 26

Application close 30 Jun 2026 after which a medical review panel will confirm your eligibility and clearance to be able to compete at IG27.

Cleared applicants will then be invited to attend the team selection camp at Royal New Zealand Air Force Base Auckland, 31 July - 3 August 2026.

Thanks to all of the providers who came along and supported the Greater Wellington Veterans' Support Forum at Te Rauparaha Arena yesterday. Veterans and their whanau turned out in droves to meet with Veterans' Affairs New Zealand staff and other financial, health and wellbeing, and veteran organisations.

A visit from Rt Hon Chris Penk MP Minister for Veterans and Minister of Defence topped the day off.

Today is International Nurses Day. Celebrated around the world every May 12, for the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth. To celebrate this day, we thought we would share some history about our nurses.

Since the First World War, the Army’s Nursing Officers have served in every major conflict New Zealand has been involved in. More than 500 nurses served in the First World War and more than 600 joined the Second World War effort, serving in the Pacific, Egypt, England, Greece, Crete, Syria, Tunisia and Italy. Back then they were called the New Zealand Army Nursing Service (NZANS). In 1953 the NZANS became the Royal New Zealand Nursing Corps (RNZNC), and the first RNZNC officer was later sent to Vietnam to work with the Australians at Vung Tau.

We are looking forward to meeting veterans and their whanāu from throughout the greater Wellington region.

This forum is free to attend and is an opportunity for New Zealand veterans, their families and whānau to meet with staff from Veterans' Affairs New Zealand, connect with other veterans and engage with organisations that can provide support and assistance.
