We are once again amazed and very grateful at the generosity of all who attended The Burke Open fishing competition last week in Clonbur 🎣

Sean, Daniel and Michelle from our crew accepted a donation of €1,400 from Pat Winning. We thank Pat, Cyril and all at Burke's Clonbur for their continued support each year.

Donations like this mean so much to our unit and will help with updating our drysuits and lifejackets.

A massive thank you again this year to all members of Mayo County Ploughing Committee.....our crew accepted a cheque for €500 from John Joe Hughes.

Last week members of Corrib Mask Search and Rescue had the privilege of visiting our colleagues at Westport Coast Guard station and conducting a joint training exercise.
This was a great opportunity for all crew members to get to know each other as quite often we can be called to assist at the same incidents.
We launched 2 of our boats alongside the Coast Guards boats and got to experience launching in sea conditions, navigating areas of clew bay and towing & tranfer operations.
We thank all at Westport Coast Guard station for their hospitality, it was a productive evening and we look forward to more training sessions like this in the future which will benefit both units should we ever need to assist each other on callouts 😀

So much to smile about.... it's Friday, it's a long weekend and dare we say the weather is looking good!!! 👌😎🍦

With the fine weather comes trips to the river, lake or beach so please always think safety!

🦺 Always wear a lifejacket or suitable flotation device for your activity

📞 Always carry a means of calling for help such as a VHF radio or mobile phone in a waterproof pouch and keep it on you

🌤 Always check the weather forecast before venturing out

🏊‍♀️ Always swim within your depth and never swim alone

🚨Always tell someone where you are going and when you are due back

😎 lastly, enjoy your long weekend!!

Remember if you see someone in difficulty in or near the water please call 999/112 and ask for The Coast Guard don't assume someone else has made that call.

Easter weekend prompts joint water safety appeal by the Irish Coast Guard, Water Safety Ireland and the RNLI 🐣🛟

Ahead of the Easter weekend, the Irish Coast Guard, Water Safety Ireland and the RNLI, are urging people to take simple safety precautions when visiting the coast or planning activities on or near the water. Members of the public are also asked to keep an eye on the weather forecast, as conditions can change quickly.

🛶Those using kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, small motorboats, and sailing dinghies, are asked to ‘Plan and Prepare’ by following the Code of Practice for the Safe Operation of Recreational Craft available at www.safetyonthewater.gov.ie.

🥶Water temperatures are still cold, which significantly increases the risk of cold-water shock and hypothermia, not only for swimmers but also those who fall into water accidentally.

Some key safety advice for all water users includes the following:
🌊 Check the weather, wind and tide times before going in, on, or near water
🦺 Wear an appropriate lifejacket, including when angling from shore
⏰️ Inform someone on shore of your plans and time you will return
📞 Always carry a means of calling and signalling for help
Get the right level of training for your craft

If you see somebody in trouble on the water or along the coast or think that they are in trouble, use marine VHF radio Ch 16 or dial 112 and ask for the Coast Guard who will dispatch the necessary services to help 🆘️
