Joyce Country le Chéile

Joyce Country le Chéile Joyce Country le Chéile is a voluntary community group from Clonbur / Corr na Móna. Galway Please email [email protected] for more information.

We are hoping to resettle a refugee family who are fleeing war in the Middle East into Joyce Country, Co. As a community we wondered what we could do to help the horrible situation people are facing over in countries in the Middle East. We came across The Open Community which is the national support organisation for Ireland’s Community Sponsorship Programme for Refugees. The Open Community engages

and supports people all over Ireland to welcome refugees into their local communities. Through Community Sponsorship, refugees who are fleeing conflict and persecution are brought to a safe and secure country like Ireland, where they are fully supported by the local community. This method of resettling refugees has been operating successfully in Canada since the 1970s and is a proven way of encouraging integration for those who are coming from crisis situations. The people of Clonbur and Corr na Móna have always been extremely welcoming and generous which is why we believe it is the perfect place for a project like this. The Community Sponsorship programme requires us to secure accommodation and fundraise at least €10,000 to support a family for their first 2 years in Ireland. If you would like to get involved in this project in any way, we would love to have you. This is Joyce Country le Chéile, and we’re all pulling together, so that one more family can become part of our community. We hope you’ll be part of it. Ní neart go cur le chéile
