80 years of Galway Flying Club ✈️

Last weekend, we celebrated with a special fly-in at Carnmore in aid of Galway Hospice, welcoming visiting aircraft back to Galway Airport for the first time in over a decade.

All 50 aircraft slots were booked, with more than 300 people joining us on the day by road and by air.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered and helped make it possible. There was significant planning and coordination for the event, and it could not have been done without the many voluntary members in Galway Flying Club helping out in the weeks leading up to the event, and on the day. Also thanks to the Fire Service and Civil Defence for fire and ambulance cover for the day.

We’re very lucky to have such great scenery on our doorstep. See some of the stunning photos from one of our members, Ray, on a flight to the Cliffs of Moher and Aran Islands earlier this month during a spell of great weather.

Congratulations to club members Lee and Leo who passed all of their IAA PPL ground school exams earlier this month! Thanks also to the instructors who volunteered to deliver the ground school over the last few months.

A different kind of traffic on the apron this weekend ✈️🏁

Day to day, the airport is used by the flying club, fire service, civil defence and others. This weekend, we were delighted to share our corner of Galway Airport with the Galway Rally as they used the airfield as their service area for the rally weekend.
