Meet The A Capella Knights who will feature as guest vocalists at the 130 Year Celebration on June 21st. The A Capella Knights

The A Capella Knights, formed in late 2013, are a group of friends who met through various choirs and wanted to form their own male vocal group to share their manly low tones and angelic highs with the world! They have performed all over Galway city and county, from fundraisers in hotels to accompanying hip hop dancing in the Town Hall Theatre! Their most cherished performances have been in An Taibhdhearc (2016/2017), Busker Browne’s (2018), their 10th Anniversary concert at the Town Hall Theatre in September 2023, and most of all their 10 consecutive annual “Knights Before Christmas” concerts from 2015 to 2024 in Galway Cathedral (including a virtual concert during covid lockdowns!) raising over €100,000 for 2 wonderful local charities, Galway Simon and Hand in Hand, with the support of many of Galway’s wonderful performers and groups.

One of these groups was The Frenchville Brass Ensemble, led by Frank Donlon and consisting of members of St Patrick’s Brass Band, and who brought that special kind of Christmas sound to these concerts in the unique way a brass band does. The Knights are delighted to share in this celebration of St Patrick’s Brass Band and wish the band a very happy 130th anniversary.

One year on, we pause to remember our dear friend and bandmate, Peter Power.

Peter was far more than a musician in St. Patrick’s Brass Band Galway — he was part of its very heartbeat. From his earliest days playing with us, to directing, leading, mentoring and serving in countless roles behind the scenes, Peter gave his time, his talent and his whole heart to the band. His steady leadership, particularly during his years as Chairperson, helped shape the band we are proud to be today, and his influence continues to be felt.

We miss him deeply. We miss the music, the guidance, the humour, and the quiet reassurance of his presence. Most of all, we miss our friend.

As a band and as a family, we hold Peter close in our memories from all the organising, the presentations, the speeches & AGM’s to playing the Bass Drum on Paddy’s Day to the Covid POD’s that allowed us to come back together as a band, the list goes on. Our thoughts remain with his beloved wife Mary, his children Aoife, Peter, Ailbhe and Elaine, daughter-in-law Tracy, his cherished grandson Fionn, and all of his extended family.

Forever in our hearts.
