At Breast Cancer Ireland, our science is ready, now it’s time to take it further 🔬
On this International Clinical Trials Day, our Chairman, Professor Arnie Hill, explains why the Research Matters campaign marks such a critical moment for breast cancer in Ireland. Breakthroughs developed in our labs are ready to move into clinical trials, where they can transform the lives of real patients.
But we need your help to get there.

Meet Vanessa 💗
At just 34, Vanessa found a lump, a moment that would change everything.
She was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma, stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, with scans suggesting it may have spread to her liver. What followed was a battle no one prepares for. Chemotherapy. A double mastectomy. Uncertainty at every turn.

Today, Vanessa has no evidence of disease.
She credits her doctors, nurses, family and friends who stood by her through the toughest time of her life.

Her story is a powerful reminder: knowing your body can save your life.

We’re proud to introduce Breast Cancer Ireland’s refreshed brand, reflecting how far we’ve come and the future we’re working towards.
For almost 15 years, our community has helped drive life changing research. With more than €45 million raised and researchers supported across three continents, that shared ambition continues to grow.

Today, we’re entering an exciting new chapter for Breast Cancer Ireland.

Over the last number of years, we’ve grown, evolved and, most importantly, listened carefully to the people who matter most to us — our supporters, researchers, healthcare professionals, partners, volunteers and the breast cancer community itself.

What we heard was clear: our ambition has grown, and our brand, and logo, now needs to reflect that.

Breast Cancer Ireland today is very different from the organisation we were when we began almost 15 years ago. We've raised more than €45 million, invested €23 million into world-first breast cancer research, supported researchers across three continents and helped bring new ideas, treatments and approaches closer to the people who need them.

We’re funding the very research that will change the future of breast cancer. We’re investing in earlier detection. We’re educating tens of thousands of people every year - all across Ireland - about breast health. We’re raising awareness, but just as importantly, we're bringing the very best scientific minds in the world together to make a tangible difference.

And we’re not stopping there...That’s why our refreshed brand is built around a simple, ambitious idea:

A call to action to RE-WRITE THE FUTURE.

Together, we can rewrite it through groundbreaking research — accelerating new treatments, therapies and discoveries. We can rewrite it through education and awareness — empowering people to know the signs and symptoms and giving them the best chance of early detection.
And we can rewrite it through the extraordinary commitment of our patients, researchers, supporters, fundraisers, partners and communities across Ireland.
Our new identity represents who we are today and where we are going: ambitious, hopeful and determined to change what a breast cancer diagnosis means for generations to come.

The logo may be new, but our purpose has never been clearer.
Together - Let’s Rewrite the Future.

Behind every statistic is a reason research can’t stop 🔬💗

The numbers remind us just how many lives are touched by breast cancer, across ages, families and communities. But research is changing what those numbers can mean. It leads to earlier detection, better treatments and more lives saved.

At Breast Cancer Ireland, we’re committed to funding the research that moves us closer to a future where breast cancer no longer has the same impact. Research today. Better outcomes tomorrow.

“We need to put out a call for lobular breast cancer funding for research.”

For Siobhan Freeney, raising awareness of lobular breast cancer is deeply personal. Following her diagnosis in 2015, she became a patient advocate, helping other women understand this type of breast cancer and calling for greater investment in research.

In this 60second clip from More Than a Lump Poscast, Siobhan joins Aisling Hurley to discuss why that investment matters and the possibilities that research and collaboration can bring. Today Siobhan is actively campaigning for women to know and be informed of their breast density at mammogramme stage.

What makes Mizen to Malin so special is the powerful story behind it. What began from personal loss has grown into an incredible community fundraising initiative, bringing people together year after year to help change the future for those diagnosed with breast cancer.

We are hugely grateful to Paul Gallagher, event Co-Founder, the KC Wheelers, every cyclist, volunteer, supporter and sponsor — and to Nissan Ireland for their continued support for turning determination, friendship and personal experience into such a remarkable contribution.

This €106,000 will help fund vital breast cancer research, supporting our mission to develop better treatments, improve outcomes and ultimately rewrite the future of breast cancer in Ireland.

Five days. 670km. From Mizen Head to Malin Head. And an incredible team of 40 cyclists who pushed themselves to the limit for a cause that is deeply personal to so many.

Thank you, Kilmacud Crokes, for going the distance for Breast Cancer Ireland 💗
