During Traveller Pride Week, we celebrate the rich culture, resilience, and strength of Traveller communities.

Just like any other community, Traveller women are subjected to domestic abuse. At Women’s Aid, we acknowledge the unique challenges that some Traveller women and families face when seeking support; barriers like discrimination, lack of culturally appropriate services and fear of stigma.

Traveller women deserve to feel safe, heard, and respected. Traveller women deserve support.

Recognising that you are being abused is an important step. This video contains information which you may find helpful.

If you or someone you know needs support, you are not alone, we are here for you.

The conviction of former garda Paul Moody for coercive control against another partner is a significant development which we hope will encourage other survivors to speak out.

The courage and determination of the women in both cases stands in stark contrast to the actions of Paul Moody and offers hope to other victim-survivors of domestic abuse.

While the final outcome is welcome, cases like this highlight the positions of power and trust that members of An Garda Sióchána occupy.

For far too long Paul Moody thought he was untouchable and that he could subject the women in his life to horrendous physical and emotional abuse. And for too long, this was the case.

It is very important for women experiencing domestic violence and abuse, particularly where the perpetrator is a Garda, to feel they can safely and confidently reach out to the Gardaí for help.

Gardaí must always be held to extremely high standards in all aspects of their lives. This was not the case here.

It’s important to see all institutions such as Fiosrú, Office of the Police Ombudsman support prosecutions and sanctions of serving members of An Garda Síochána, in a timely and effective manner, which was not the case for this victim-survivor.

If you need support, you can contact Women's Aid 24 hr National Freephone Helpline on 1800 341 900, or go to womensaid.ie to use the Instant Message Service or for more information on domestic violence and abuse.

Today we Go Purple to raise awareness of domestic abuse and to stand with survivors across Ireland.

is an initiative of An Garda Síochána, supported by domestic abuse services nationwide, to highlight the reality of domestic abuse and the supports available in every community.

More than one in three women in Ireland has been subjected to domestic abuse.

Every survivor deserves safety, dignity, and a response that is informed, compassionate, and supportive.

In the lead‑up to today, Women’s Aid provided awareness materials to Garda stations to help strengthen understanding and visibility of the support services available.

An Garda Siochana responds to tens of thousands of domestic abuse reports every year. It is vital that women experiencing domestic violence and abuse, feel they can safely and confidently reach out to the Gardaí for help.

If you need support, you are not alone. We are here.
