We are delighted to share the news that Bishop Larry Duffy has appointed Monsignor Joseph McGuinness as the new Prior of Lough Derg.

Monsignor Joseph is no stranger to Lough Derg, having been a regular member of the clergy team on Station Island over the years. We look forward to welcoming him to this new role and assure him of our prayers.

Our thanks and prayers also go to Fr La Flynn for his dedicated service as Prior.

Today, August 4th, we celebrate the feast of St. John Marie Vianney, the patron saint of parish priests. His life was a powerful witness of selfless service, dedication to the Sacraments, and total devotion to his people.

We take this opportunity to thank all the priests in our lives who serve our communities so faithfully every day. Please join us in praying for them, and for an increase in holy vocations to the priesthood.

Today, August 1st, is the Feast Day of St. Alphonsus Liguori, Bishop, Doctor of the Church, founder of the Redemptorists, and Patron Saint of Vocations!
He spent his life helping souls draw close to Christ in loving prayer. Most importantly, he helped people to discern God's call in their lives. His wisdom reminds us that every true vocation begins in quiet, heartfelt conversation with God.

We are delighted to share that Tiernan Burke of Whitechurch will be ordained to the priesthood for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cloyne on Sunday, 24th May, the Feast of Pentecost.

The Ordination Mass will take place in St Colman’s Cathedral at 3.00pm, and all are warmly welcome to attend this joyful and historic occasion for our diocese.

Please keep Tiernan in your prayers as he prepares for this special day and as he begins his priestly ministry in the service of God’s people.

Good Shepherd Sunday | World Day of Prayer for Vocations | 26th April 2026

Lord Jesus, Good Shepherd,

On this Good Shepherd Sunday — the World Day of Prayer for Vocations — we rejoice that You have called one of our own to serve Your people as a priest.

Today, as Deacon Stephen Sherry kneels before Bishop Larry Duffy at St. Macartan's Cathedral, we ask that You pour out Your Spirit upon him. You are the Shepherd who calls each soul by name — and Stephen has heard Your voice and said yes. What a gift that yes is to this diocese.

Make him a shepherd after Your own heart — courageous in truth, tender in mercy, faithful in prayer. May he feed Your flock with Word and Sacrament, bring Your healing to the broken, and walk closely with those entrusted to his care.

On this World Day of Prayer for Vocations, may his ordination stir something in the hearts of others across Clogher — young and old — to listen for Your call and respond with the same generosity.
