S/M Colin Johnson MBE been a member of the Naval Family for many decades in many ways, be that as a Regular, Reservist, Association Committee Membership including HMS DRAGON, CAMBRIA and of course the RNA. Colin was awarded the MBE in HM Queen Elizabeth II Birthday Honours - Military List in June 1998.

Over the past three years as Chair, Colin has been instrumental in the remarkable resurgence of the Swansea Branch of the Royal Naval Association. At a time when the branch had been decommissioned for several years, Colin’s exceptional leadership, determination, and unwavering commitment revitalised the organisation and set it firmly back on course.

Through his tireless efforts, the branch has grown year on year, now proudly amassing a membership of over one hundred shipmates. Colin’s drive and enthusiasm have fostered a renewed sense of unity, pride, and purpose within the branch, ensuring its long-term sustainability and strengthening its role within the wider community, and ultimately promoting the RNA Ethos, ‘Once Navy Always Navy’

Colin has dedicated countless hours to organising and planning both the Branch Recommissioning and the Re-dedication of the Branch Colours, two pivotal events in its recent history. His meticulous coordination with Swansea County Council, the Armed Forces Champion, and RNA Area and National Council representatives ensured that these significant occasions were delivered with dignity, precision, and the highest standards of professionalism.

His exemplary service, steadfast loyalty, and extraordinary contribution to the Swansea Branch embody the finest traditions of the Royal Naval Association. In recognition of his outstanding dedication and the enduring legacy of his work, the Swansea Branch proudly recommends S/M Colin Johnson MBE for the honour of Life Membership of the Royal Naval Association.

AGM 2026
Great turnout from our Shipmates at this year’s AGM. President S/M Andy Davies reflected on a strong 2025, and we paused to honour S/Ms Carl Mason, Roger Morris, and Ted Gore, who sadly crossed the bar this year.

Thriving Together – A Weekend to Reset, Rebuild, and Rediscover Yourself

Occasionally, an opportunity arises that offers far more than a change of scenery, it offers a turning point. Thriving Together is one such opportunity.

On the 15th May, a group of Shipmates will head to Westward Ho! in Devon for a wellbeing weekend designed to help people feel like themselves again. Not through pressure or formality, but through fresh air, shared experience, and the simple act of stepping away from daily demands.

Participants will enjoy professionally led surfing lessons, structured wellbeing activities, and relaxed time outdoors. The dedicated bunkhouse accommodation fosters a sense of camaraderie that many participants say they have not experienced in years.
The only costs are for food.
Free transport is available on a first-come basis from:
Manchester
Liverpool
Birmingham
Bristol
Taunton
Portsmouth
Yeovil
Plymouth

This mini-break is for the people who quietly keep going, those who support others, those coping with change, those feeling isolated, or anyone in need of a reset.

• Time away in a supportive, pressure free setting
• A confidence boost or a chance to rebuild resilience
• Social connection after a period of isolation
• Space to focus on their own wellbeing
• A positive, uplifting experience among Shipmates

The programme has already transformed lives. For some, it has been the first time in years they have laughed freely, tried something new, or felt genuinely connected. For others, it has re ignited confidence and purpose.

Why it matters
Welfare and wellbeing is not only about responding to difficulties, but it’s also about creating opportunities for people to thrive. Thriving Together offers exactly that.
If you know someone who would benefit, especially someone unlikely to put themselves forward, now is the moment to nominate them. Let’s ensure the Shipmates who need this most are given the chance.
You can nominate yourself too - tell us why you need this 🙂

Closing date for nominations: 13th March 2026
