So much of the frustration and anxiety we hear from patients and caregivers can be put down to the lack of joined-up communication in healthcare. A single medical record for each individual, accessible across all NHS hospitals, clinics and primary care centres, is something support charities like ours have been calling for for years, if not decades. So good to see it finally on the horizon!

In National Volunteers Week we want to shout out to those who give their time and energy to us for free. MDS UK is once again an official charity partner for the 2026 Cabbage Patch 10 Race, taking place on Sunday 18 October through Twickenham, Kingston and Richmond.

Although the event has now sold out, we are delighted to share that the charity has 5 places available for supporters who would like to take part.

Whether you're an experienced runner or looking for a new challenge taking on a 10-mile run, we'd love to welcome you to #𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗠𝗗𝗦.

Wishing Richard Smout the very best of luck as he takes on an incredible challenge this June - 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟭𝟱𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀 throughout the month to raise vital funds and awareness for MDS UK🚶

Fresh from a walking holiday in the Picos de Europa- where the heat made for tough but valuable training - he’s already putting in the miles and gearing up for the challenge ahead, proudly wearing his MDS t-shirt along the way❤️

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿To kick start his 150 miles, this Sunday, 7th June, Richard is taking on the Aberdeen Kiltwalk - an 18-mile walk through Aberdeenshire - as part of his fundraising journey.

May 28th is World Blood Cancer Day, when people around the world come together to throw a spotlight on the different blood cancers, their impact on patients and families, and the importance of blood, plasma, platelet and stem cell donations.

Happy Clinical Trials Day to all the scientific researchers, funders and participants who lead the drive for new treatments and therapies. It's hard to imagine where the world would be without you.
The Vitamin B5 for MDS study was recently awarded £1m in funding by Cancer Research UK, which MDS UK helped to get off the ground with donations and fundraising from our amazing community, so a big thank you from us!

🚴‍♂️𝗢𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝗸𝗲 – 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁! 🚴‍♀️

A huge congratulations to Steve for completing an incredible 100-mile ride from Ellesmere Port to Anglesey, 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 £𝟯,𝟬𝟯𝟱 in support of MDS UK.

Steve tackled the first 50 miles solo, before his daughter-in-law Hayley joined him for the second half. Then came a brilliant surprise boost - his nephew Paul and Ian from RAF Valley joined them at Menai Bridge, helping carry them through the final miles 🙌

The finish line was an emotional one - a powerful moment shared with his daughter that really shows what this challenge meant ❤️

👏 Well done, Steve, and a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved supporting this fundraising event. You’ve made a truly meaningful impact.
