‘I love Synergy and want to be in everything’ Participant 🤩

A few moments from our free Introduction to Acting workshop in partnership with last week.

Over three days, young people aged 13–17 joined us to try something new, build confidence, and get a feel for what acting is all about.

No experience needed. Just curiosity, energy, and a willingness to give it a go.

‘This felt like a safe place for the kids to be’ Parent

People in prison are often reduced to numbers - a statistic in a report or a line in a document. Theatre does something those reports can’t.

When stories are shared live, in a room full of people, they stop being abstract and they become human.

24 hours. One brief. No time to overthink…

This week, seven writers stepped into our Rapid Response workshop for ages 50+. They took inspiration from Lifers by Evan Placey and each created brand new scene in just one day. Esther directed, and we welcomed Peter Wight and James Backway from the cast to do the readings.

Fast, instinctive, and rooted in lived experience - this is what happens when you give writers the space (and the clock) to respond in real time.

‘I loved it - can we do it again?’ Frank
‘I loved how quick the turnaround was. It really lit a fire under me’ JR

‘The words bounced off the page. They moved swiftly and elegantly and with feeling. There was a great freshness to the work’ Peter

‘It was so satisfying to revisit the world of Lifers. It was a joy.’ James

We’re proud to share that Lifers has been shortlisted for an Etties Drama Award 🖤

The Etties celebrate the shows that take risks, work small, and hit hard - the kind of theatre that lives and breathes in fringe spaces.

To be recognised alongside such bold, intimate work means a lot to us.

Huge thanks to for the nod, and to everyone who made Lifers what it is.

Our podcast workshop participants have been busy these past few weeks.

Led by the brilliant the groups have been planning, debating and recording their episodes and .

Aston, Amani, Theresa and Simeon took on modern art.
Alex and Dean tackled the criminal justice system.
Quite big topics then.

Femi’s now off to weave the magic in the edit, and we’ll all regroup in a couple of weeks to hear the finished podcasts for the first time.

Sounding seriously good already. 🎧📻📡
