Today is . This year's theme highlights that ‘Care doesn’t follow a schedule. Flexibility matters.’

Caring can be unpredictable. Appointments change, emergencies happen, conditions fluctuate.

More must be done to make sure people who balance paid work and unpaid care, get the flexibility they really need.

Together with the European Association Working for Carers, we're calling for urgent action from policymakers and employers to make genuine workplace flexibility a reality.

Carers UK research shows that 1,500 people now leave paid work to provide unpaid care every day in the UK. Up from 600 people a day in 2019.

Yvette Cooper, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, has announced a new, dedicated champion for unpaid carers which is a significant step forward.

Just as we rightly recognise the essential contribution of NHS workers and paid care workers, unpaid carers also play a vital role every day in supporting individuals, families and communities.

We look forward to working with government and the new champion to ensure carers’ voices help shape future plans.
