The Commonwealth Promoting democracy, human rights, economic development and environmental sustainability. We are a voice for small states and a champion for youth empowerment.

The Commonwealth is home to over 2.7 billion citizens, of which over 60% are under the age of 30. The Commonwealth includes some of the world’s largest, smallest, richest and poorest countries, spanning five regions. Thirty-three of our members are small states, many of them island nations. The Commonwealth Secretariat provides guidance on policy making, technical assistance and advisory services

to Commonwealth member countries. We support governments to help achieve sustainable, inclusive and equitable development. Our work promotes democracy, rule of law, human rights, good governance and social and economic development. The Commonwealth in partnership with British Red Cross and International Committee of the Red Cross commenced training on ‘Strengthening Military Justice, Operational Effectiveness and the Rule of Law in The Gambia’.

The training was officially opened by the Deputy Chief of Defence of The Gambia Armed Forces, Brigadier General Sait Njie.

Over the course of the week, officers of the Gambia Armed Forces will strengthen their knowledge of military justice, human rights, international humanitarian law, and the rule of law, enhancing professionalism, accountability, and operational effectiveness in support of a modern and resilient Armed Forces.

The Mauritian wheelchair racer went on to compete at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and become the first Mauritian Para athlete to reach a Paralympic final.
