Defend Tibetan Identity: Join the Peaceful London Protest Against the PRC’s Ethnic Unity Law – 1 July 2026

Tibetans, friends and supporters of Tibet, as well as all who stand for human rights and fundamental freedoms, are invited to join a peaceful protest outside the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in London on 1 July 2026, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

This demonstration is organised in response to the recently adopted Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress, passed by the National People’s Congress on 12 March 2026 and due to come into effect on 1 July 2026. The law has raised deep concern among Tibetan diaspora communities and human rights advocates due to its far-reaching implications for cultural rights, linguistic diversity, religious freedom, and the survival of distinct minority identities within the PRC.

This London protest is led by the Tibetan Community UK and supported by Tibet-related and human rights organisations, including Free Tibet, Voluntary Tibet Advocacy Group (V-TAG), Students for a Free Tibet (UK), and Global Alliance for Tibet & Persecuted Minorities - GATPM.

Remembering Kasur Chope Paljor Tsering: A Life of Service, Diplomacy and Dedication to the Tibetan People (1948–2026)

The respect he earned throughout his career was evident when he received unanimous approval from the Tibetan Parliament in Exile to join the Kashag of Kalon Tripa Professor Samdhong Rinpoche, serving as Kalon (Minister) for Health from 2007 to 2011. It was a fitting culmination of a distinguished career dedicated to education, diplomacy and public service.

Senior Central Tibetan Administration official Tsering Yangkey, currently Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Office of Tibet in London and who served under Kalon Chope Paljor Tsering during his tenure as Health Kalon, paid tribute to his leadership:

"It is very sad news. I knew Kasur Chope-la as a man with a vision and mission. During his tenure as the Health Kalon, he introduced innovative health-related initiatives like the Health Information System, Telemedicine and the Tibetan Medicare System at the Health Department. Besides, he was very spiritual and patriotic as a person."

Obituary: Lhasang Tsering (1952–2026)

On the instructions of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Lhasang joined the Information Office of the exile government in March 1983. Among his achievements there, he developed the Narthang Publications Project and the present Narthang Building, which today houses the Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR). Planning for the computerization of the Tibetan language, he also developed a new font for printing Tibetan.

(Source: Tibetan Review) Mr Lhasang Tsering, one of the best-known faces of the campaign for an independent , besides being a writer, poet, and journalist, including as a former editor of Tibetan Review, has passed away at the age of 74 on Jun 11. He has not been keeping well for some time and had been moved from his “Exile Home” to the Jampa Ling Old Age Home run by the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), where he breathed his last in the afternoon.

Lhasang Tsering was a vocal critic of the Middle Way policy of seeking autonomy, not independence, for Tibet, which was envisioned by the Dalai Lama as a realistic, mutually beneficial solution with China, and adopted by the CTA.
