EQTY in Music

EQTY in Music Together, we dismantle barriers and unleash talent But most importantly who can show them that it’s possible to have a career in the music industry.

We inspire, connect and open doors to the music industry so that underrepresented young people and emerging artists have an equal chance to realise their creative potential. Inspired by the critically acclaimed and award-winning jazz musician Abram Wilson, we are here to champion underrepresented and unrecognised talent. We provide visibility, access and opportunity within an industry which is oft

en closed to all but the most privileged. We meet young people exactly where they’re at – whether that’s at school, in the community or online – and encourage them to find their unique musical identity. And we offer practical support to emerging musicians and music professionals by sharing valuable connections and opportunities. Our Future Sound programme connects underrepresented 11 to 18 year olds with inspiring, emerging professional jazz musicians who they can relate to and aspire to be like. Our Career Development programme supports up-and-coming artists through regular coaching, mentoring and career strategy sessions. We work to understand their vision to help them build their own sustainable careers. They gain access to industry professionals and opportunities to showcase their work, and develop skills as music educators.

This spring term has been a truly special one ✨🎶

Across every Future Sound workshop at Co-op Academies Trust Belle Vue, young people have been on their own unique musical journeys - building confidence, developing their skills, and finding their voices along the way.

We are pleased to announce that we have become part of Sound and Music's Fair Access Network🙌 We’re excited to be part of this growing movement to drive collective, systemic change, which underlines our commitment to continual learning as we help shape a more inclusive future for music!

🌟 We’re pleased to welcome Abram Wilson as the latest organisation to sign up to our Fair Access Principles.

🟰 Music shapes lives, communities and culture, but to do so meaningfully it must be representative of all of the UK. Our Fair Access Principles are a sector-leading code of best practice for inclusive and equitable artist development, addressing structural barriers and creating fairer pathways in music.

🎵 Working across the North West of England and London, the Abram Wilson Foundation for Creative Arts works to inspire, connect and open doors to the music industry so that minoritised young talent have an equal chance to realise their creative potential. Inspired by the critically acclaimed musician Abram Wilson, the charity champions young people and emerging professional musicians through its Future Sound music education programme and career development initiatives, working to unleash talent and carve equitable space in the UK music industry.

🌍 With over 35 organisations now signed up, the Fair Access Network is a growing national movement for collective action and shared accountability in equity and inclusion across the sector.

📩 We welcome more partners to join our growing Fair Access Network and commit to the Principles. To find out more about becoming a signatory, contact our Head of Programmes, Laonikos Psimikakis-Chalkokondylis at [email protected].

We're so proud to announce that the wonderful Victoria Wood Foundation has awarded us with a generous grant towards Future Sound! The Foundation has been a long-term supporter; we have already achieved so much with their kind support, and can't wait to put this grant to work across all our locations in the North of England throughout this year 🙌

Before we turn the page on '25, a huuuge thank you to the artists, partners, educators and community who make it all possible.

From House of Jazz to unforgettable moments at Summer Sounds and We Out Here, it’s been a standout year of live music. We've welcomed our inaugural Artistic Board formed of 13 musicians, artists, industry execs and cultural leaders working across the dynamic UK music industry, and Future Sound has gone from strength to strength, working in 14 schools across the North West and London, receiving fantastic feedback, including record numbers opting for GCSE Music in one school as a direct result of the programme 🙌

We are incredibly grateful for your support and are so excited for everything that lies ahead in 2026!

We're just halfway through our campaign, and are thrilled to announce we've already smashed our target! 🎉 THANK YOU so much to everyone who has shared and supported us this far.

But just like the talent of the young people we work with, there’s no limit to what this campaign can achieve.

There are still 3 days left to donate if you’d like to keep the momentum going - every gift helps us reach even more young people with confidence-boosting, joy-filled music opportunities. Donations will no longer be doubled, but every penny will still go directly to Future Sound.

We are hugely grateful to Big Give, The Reed Foundation and two very generous pledgers for making the match-funding magic possible ✨
