Breakthrough T1D UK Breakthrough T1D, formerly known as JDRF, is the leading global type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and advocacy charity.

We help make everyday life with T1D better while driving toward cures. We are Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF), the leading global type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and advocacy charity, we help make everyday life with T1D better while driving toward cures. Together, we are opening doors that were once closed by diagnosis. We are accelerating world-class international research, connecting the brighte

st minds, and driving innovation forward. Research was the inspiration behind the founding of Breakthrough T1D over 50 years ago by families living with T1D and research breakthroughs is how we will make the condition a thing of the past. At Breakthrough T1D, we help make everyday life with T1D better for the people who face it. We do this by focusing on what the T1D community needs now and next. We address the issues that impact the T1D community, break through barriers, and campaign to raise awareness of the need for better access to T1D treatments and technologies. We support and connect people living with T1D and provide information and guidance that make it easier to live and thrive with T1D. We provide expert, specialist information and advice through our website, including toolkits and Rufus the Bear with T1D, to help children at different stages of T1D. We also run community events for people with T1D to meet others living with the condition. At Breakthrough T1D you will find meaningful support, be able to connect with others, and by supporting us will help fuel the breakthroughs to make T1D a thing of the past.

Type 1 or not - every kind of movement still matters. 💫

Let's debunk that physical activity and sports are off limits to people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). In fact, regular exercise can help manage the condition - or it can simply be enjoyed for the love of it.

From marathon training, walking your dog or dancing in the living room – being active is for everyone. It’s all about planning around the activity to help manage your glucose levels. 🥊🚶‍♀️

This Diabetes Awareness Week, help debunk common T1D myths by sharing this post. 💙

Our MythBuster engine is here to tackle one of the biggest T1D myths: what people think ‘causes’ the condition. 🔍

T1D isn’t caused by anything a person did or didn’t do – it’s an autoimmune condition, and there’s nothing one can do to prevent it.

This Diabetes Awareness Week, let's debunk these harmful myths. Share this post with your friends and wider network to remind others that no one chooses to have T1D. 💙

And this month, we’re delighted to announce that we’ve teamed up with the Reuben Foundation on a very special pledge.

Thanks to the generous support from the Reuben Foundation, every donation made to One Walk will be matched up to £100,000, meaning your support can go twice as far in funding life-changing breakthroughs in type 1 research. 💙

Exciting updates from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) 🚨

Data from a Breakthrough T1D-funded clinical trial showed that 12 people are no longer injecting insulin, thanks to a new anti-rejection drug called tegoprubart.

All people involved are no longer experiencing hypoglycaemia and have not had any worrying side effects. This is an amazing update for all with type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Here at Breakthrough T1D HQ, we’re kicking off Diabetes Awareness Week with a myth-busting guide to type 1 diabetes (T1D)! 🎥

You might be used to hearing that ‘unhealthy lifestyle choices’ cause T1D, or that ‘only kids can get type 1’.

But this is simply not true. T1D is an autoimmune condition, and anyone can get it at any age.

So, with over 400,000 people living with T1D in the UK, it’s never been more important to have a quick refresher on this often-misunderstood condition. 💙

If you think we missed a common myth, feel free to debunk it below.

You don’t need a personal connection to type 1 diabetes (T1D) to be a part of what we do. There’s a place for everyone in our volunteer community!

Like our amazing volunteer Tesfabrhan, who simply wanted to make a difference by doing what he already does and loves most: spreading hope and positivity. ✨

“At the London Marathon with Breakthrough T1D, many volunteers shared personal connections to diabetes” “I was inspired by the mission itself. Supporting a cause that brings hope, care, and dignity to people’s lives was reason enough for me to show up and give my bit.” – Tesfabrhan. 🥹🫶
