Episode 2 of our NE Roots podcast series, “Our Local Lighthouse,” is officially here! 🎧

This time, we’re heading to the coast to explore the fascinating history of St Mary’s Lighthouse in Whitley Bay.

Join young people Megan and Jake as they uncover the stories behind this iconic North East landmark, from its history and lighthouse keepers to how St Mary’s Island has changed over the years.

A big thank you to Sam, who works at the lighthouse, for giving up her time to speak to our young people about her experiences and the stories behind this special place.

🎉 Huge news! 🎉
We are thrilled to announce that our new project, Empowered Young Voices, is officially happening thanks to funding from the The National Lottery Community FundThe National Lottery Community Fund and the players of The National Lottery!
At Headliners, we believe in the power of youth voice. Through media, journalism and storytelling, we support young people to develop the confidence, communication and critical thinking skills they need to share their experiences, influence others and create positive change.
Over the next few years, Empowered Young Voices will support young leaders to take up positions on the boards and committees of local voluntary organisations. By using the media and story-gathering skills they develop with Headliners, they will be able to listen to the experiences of other young people, amplify those voices, and bring informed youth perspectives into the spaces where important decisions are made.
This isn't just about giving young people a seat at the table, it's about ensuring they have the skills, confidence and evidence to contribute meaningfully and help shape stronger, more inclusive organisations.
A huge thank you to everyone who supported our bid. Together, we're building a voluntary sector where young people's stories, ideas and leadership are at the heart of decision-making.

Hopeful Futures AI 🤖

A few months ago, our young people produced their video for a submission on the Hopeful Futures AI Exhibition. This was then exhibited in Newcastle Central Library!

The project focuses on how AI can help guide more sustainable choices and navigate a path towards a lower carbon future.

Here is the video that they produced. We are very proud of our young people having their work exhibited!

NE Roots Shieldfield

Over the last 2 weeks, our young people have been working towards the beginning of our NE Roots Programme. This surrounds the ideas of local heritage and allowed our young people to talk about heritage and what that looks like for them.

This project allows our young people to grow by giving them the tools needed to develop their understanding of podcasting and audio recording.
