"I can tell you about how I feel in response to what you've said but I cannot speak for a whole community of people of colour because there are differing views and the same is true in the LGBTQ+ community it's not a monolith"

Reflecting on both his experience as a person of colour and as a gay man, Josh Babarinde OBE, Liberal Democrats politician, reminds us there is no single LGBTQ+ experience, just as there is no single experience of race or class. Communities are made up of individuals with different backgrounds.

As him and Simon Blake continue this important conversation about LGBTQ+ equality they acknowledge the need to respect diversity. But above all, they highlight the need for kindness and empathy, always.

Taking place right before World Mental Health Day, Rainbow Laces Day will bring people together to create spaces where LGBTQ+ people know they belong. Sport and movement should be for everyone, yet three times as many LGBTQ+ people still face discrimination whilst exercising.

This Rainbow Laces Day, we're asking everyone to take one action for LGBTQ+ inclusion. Whether you're an individual, a workplace, a sports club or team, one small action can make a big difference.
