Another volunteer, another spotlight here at London Friend! ✨
Read the full interview from one of our trustees:
🎤 What is your name, pronouns, your volunteer position?
🗣️ Thom Will, he/him, Trustee of London Friend and Head of Communications, Scripted at Sky
🎤 What inspired you to start volunteering?
🗣️ Over the years living in London, I’ve seen how much mental health and addiction can impact the q***r community, including people close to me and my own life too. I’d been thinking for a while about how to give back more meaningfully, and becoming a Trustee at London Friend felt like a really natural way to do that.
🎤 What does being part of the LGBTQ+ community mean to you?
🗣️ For me it’s about connection, empathy and resilience. Our community has always had to find ways to support each other, and organisations like London Friend are such an important part of that, creating spaces where people feel understood, supported and less alone.
🎤 What’s your favourite thing about volunteering here?
🗣️ The people. There’s a real commitment to supporting the community in a thoughtful and compassionate way, and you can really feel that when you’re around the incredibly inspiring team and volunteers who make this work possible. The passion, energy and care that goes into the work they do every day is genuinely inspiring to be around.
🎤 What would you say to someone thinking about volunteering?
🗣️ You don’t need to come from the charity sector or have all the answers to make a meaningful contribution. If you care about people and want to give some of your time, energy or expertise to something that matters, it’s an incredibly rewarding thing to do.
Thank you Thom for all that you do! 💖
