IOP members are invited to attend or join on zoom, the BNSS Astronomy meeting on Tuesday 17 November 2026, starting at 7:30pm. James Fradgley will give the talk: 'Active Galaxies: What Are They?' This talk will involve a discussion of black holes, accretion disks, jets and types of energy emitted.

Any IOP members near Wimborne (or any member can join on zoom) are welcome to attend Wessex Astronomical Society's monthly meeting at Allendale Hall, on Tuesday 6th October, starting at 7.45pm (hall opens at 7:30pm), or on Zoom.

This meeting is the Bob Mizon Memorial Lecture, and this year Hugh Allen, in person, will be presenting the talk entitled, ‘Binary Stars – A history of Making Waves’. The talk uses Hugh's own images and spectroscopic observations to illustrate the impact of binary stars on the history and science of astronomy. Bob himself was a great fan of binary stars, so it seems especially fitting that this is the subject of the talk.
