Last week, for our evening with Nexus anchoring London Quantum Week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Ricardo Mondragon as an exhibitor and a voice that reframed how the room thought about quantum altogether.

Working across sculpture, painting, print, and installation, his practice translates oscillatory phenomena into physical form, drawing on standing waves, resonance, interference, and quantum entanglement to examine how invisible relationships give rise to pattern and complexity in the natural world. The result is work that sits at a genuinely rare intersection of art, music, mathematics, and science.

Ricardo is currently completing his MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art, and was previously Artist in Residence at Fermilab, the United States’ leading particle physics laboratory. You can check his work out on his Instagram 🖼️

Amazing to tune into Yasmin Baba’s podcast episode with UKTN 🎙️

Amilis won our competition in February and has since gone on to win a pitch at Women’s Health Week New York and won £1M yesterday at London Tech Week!

In the episode, Yasmin discusses pitching her early-stage health tech startup to a room full of men, how she coped with bootstrapping by “being a minimalist with big dreams”, and how she believes that better data can bring down the 500,000+ women on gynecology waiting lists.

We’re super proud to have supported Amilis over the last year, and we cannot wait to see what’s next for them. Thanks for the shoutout! 👀

Every week, we see incredible innovators come through our doors! Everyone comes interested, ready to share ideas and build, in true Venture Cafè style 😊

When Venture Café launched in Boston’s Cambridge Innovation Center in 2010—right next door to MIT—our mission was clear: build spaces where ideas could turn into impact.

As we continue to grow our London innovation ecosystem, we draw inspiration from MIT itself, specifically this simple equation that captures a truth often overlooked. Invention and innovation are not the same. An invention is an idea or a piece of technology. Innovation happens when that idea is commercialized—when it’s brought to market and creates real value for people, businesses, and society 🌍

With so many new innovators joining our community and Thursday Gatherings, the team decided that it’s a good time to share our credo and engagement rules 🤗

Venture Café London promotes innovation through networking, sharing ideas, and embracing exuberant inventiveness to drive economic growth and make the world a better place🌎
