The Remakery

The Remakery Makerspace in Brixton breathing life and creativity into waste since 2012 || To rethink, resource, reuse & redistribute unwanted material
(1)

The Remakery is a co-working space for local re-use and upcycling enterprises. By providing affordable workspace, access to material streams and business development support, the Remakery will offer a springboard for new and growing enterprises creating products and opportunities from waste. Its purpose is to mobilise Brixton's wasted resources and hidden skills: keeping valuable materials in circ

ulation, and cultivating skills of repair and making that have been undervalued in an economy that has overlooked resource constraints. The Remakery will also function as a catalyst for innovation, creating a collaborative environment in which to pilot inspiring and replicable approaches to re-use. The Remakery has secured a 15 year lease on a 1000 sq m disused garage block in north Brixton, and has been awarded £100,000 of capital funding through Lambeth Council's public voting project Your Choice (receiving over 3000 votes from local residents). Architecture for Humanity London, a built environment charity, worked closely with our Steering Group from March 2011 to 2013 to design the Remakery workspace following redevelopment of the site in 2012.

Giving the Grow Your Own Clothes; Slade Gardens Flax some TLC on my way into the Remakery today. With guidance and insight from the GYOC practitioner .couture, and a disco sound track from the park workout class.

The flax is doing great, maybe partly thanks to the Rabbit straw we've been feeding it. The rabbits are busy all day in their grazing rotation turning grass and discarded veg leaves from the garden into super soft fluff and nutritious flax food.

Looking forward to some linen jeans and an angora jumper 🤤 (hope that's ok with you .couture and the other GYOC participants... 😂)

With support from National Lottery Awards for All, we're exploring the future of homegrown colour for textiles.

Rooted Colour 2026 is a programme of capacity building for Circular Economy Textiles.

Growing natural dyes with 10 London based Community Gardens.

Engaging volunteers in exciting uses of natural colour.

And

Building a Community Scale natural dye studio at The Remakery that can upgrade our capacity from what can fit in a pot!

We need and people who can draw things on computers, who are interested in the next generation of manufacturing equipment.

With these new machines we can get part Mass Production and into Regenerative Provisioning.

We've been planting flax at the wonderful as part of
Grow Your Own Clothes 2026.

This brilliant initiative by .couture brings together our communal workshops with Slade's iconic growing space and Allan's decade of knowledge building.

Our Workshop Coordinator prototyped us a brilliant handmade hackle based on the design. Can't wait to test it.

Should we run a hackle making course...?

We tested out first Eco-printing workshop in the new Lab space last year.
