“Hospitals like King’s don’t just treat patients—they save lives, support families, and provide hope in the most difficult moments.”

After Kelly’s daughter, Opal, received two life-saving brain surgeries at King’s College Hospital, Kelly wanted to show her gratitude by undertaking several incredible walking challenges. So far, she has raised over £4,000 for King’s College Hospital Charity!

Today, Opal can scale a climbing frame, keep pace with her friends and enjoys life as a child should.

The care, skill, and dedication of the staff gave Opal a future that she otherwise may not have had. Kelly and her family will be forever grateful to King’s and the staff who saved her daughter. 💛

We want to give a massive shout out to the fantastic team from Dulwich Hamlet Football Club - who are one of our top fundraisers from last month’s King’s Abseil, raising over £2,000! 🎉

With the help of supporters like you and some special families, King’s College Hospital Charity has funded several refurbishment projects for young patients and their loved ones that make hospital a little less overwhelming, less clinical and a more comfortable place to be, including:

🟡 A refurbishment of the family rooms
🟡 A sensory room
🟡 A Teddy Bear Hospital
🟡 Sleeper chairs for family members

This is just the beginning. King’s College Hospital Charity will soon be working on a major refurbishment of the Children’s Outpatient Department, which will transform this space for patients, families and staff.

At the start of this year, Avi was rushed to hospital after doctors discovered a tumour at the back of his brain.

He underwent six brain surgeries, the first one lasting nine hours and spent several months in hospital, later undergoing Proton Beam Therapy- a type of radiotherapy to treat cancer. In April, doctors confirmed that his treatment had been successful.

Incredibly, nearly nine months after the first brain surgery, Avi took part in Run The Wharf 5km and raised nearly £11,000 for King’s College Hospital Charity.

Avi said: “I’m super-grateful for the care I received at King’s. Everyone was amazing, especially my consultant Mr Bhangoo and all the nurses who looked after me so well.

“Because of the incredible treatment I received at King’s, I wanted to do something support the hospital’s Charity. It feels good to give something back."

“My Dad made connections with the staff at King's, and I saw some lovely friendships bonding as time went on. There was Darryl in particular, who Dad could not speak highly enough of, he was so lovely.”

Jo’s Dad John was admitted to Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) just before Christmas after becoming seriously unwell.

During his time at King’s, John formed close bonds with Healthcare Assistant Darryl, whose kindness, humor and compassion made a lasting impact on both John and Jo.

John was transferred to Orpington Hospital and passed away peacefully, surrounded by Jo, her sons and caring staff. Jo says the experience of her Dad’s treatment at King’s gave her great comfort and believes the care John received went above and beyond.

For Jo, it gave her a sense of peace, and that’s why there was no question in her mind to give to King’s in her Dad’s memory 💛

It was very uplifting to see so many dedicated staff at King’s recognised for the outstanding contributions they make every day across our hospitals at the latest King's Stars Quarterly Awards.

The awards, held recently King's College Hospital NHS and Princess Royal University Hospital, recognise staff who go above and beyond to give their patients exceptional care 💛

Sir David Behan, Chair of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Matthew Trainer, Chief Executive, who spoke at the awards, highlighted the resilience and commitment demonstrated by individuals and teams across King's.

All award winners were recognised for exemplifying King's Values and delivering the highest standards of care and support.

As people with sickle cell disease are living longer than ever before, many face new and often overlooked challenges as they age. Thanks to unrestricted donations from supporters like you, King's College Hospital Charity funded Ageing Well with Sickle Cell (AWWSC), an innovative co-designed project aiming to revolutionise care for people with sickle cell.

In the long term it will help people with sickle cell age with greater confidence, dignity and support, while paving the way for more joined-up and compassionate care for future generations.
