Reality: Trustees provide strategic leadership.

Many people assume trustees are responsible for running the day-to-day operations of a charity.

In fact, trustees focus on governance.

They help set the organisation's direction, oversee its finances, support and challenge senior leaders, and make sure the charity stays true to its purpose.

It's a strategic role that can have a lasting impact on the organisation and the people it supports. While it’s possible that some small charities and groups are looking for someone who can also be more hands-on, you can choose a role that fits you best.

"People like me don't become trustees."
Reality: Great boards include people from all backgrounds.

Charities don't need trustees who all think the same.

They need people with different experiences, perspectives, cultures, communities and lived experience.

If you've ever thought you don't fit the "typical trustee" mould, it's worth remembering there isn't one.

Many charities are actively looking to diversify their boards because better representation leads to stronger governance and better decision-making.

🌟 Reach Volunteering is STAYING OPEN! 🌟

Earlier this month, we shared the heartbreaking news that Reach was preparing to close. The response from our community and the wider voluntary sector was extraordinary.

Now, thanks to a group of funders and individual donors who have pledged their support, Reach’s future has been secured for the next two years. We’re excited to share that our Board has, therefore, reversed the closure decision with immediate effect.

Most importantly, our platform is open and available to use today. Charities and community groups can continue to recruit trustees and skills-based volunteers, and volunteers can continue to search and apply for opportunities.

North Tyneside Carers' Centre supports local carers to understand their rights, access help, and cope with their caring responsibilities while safeguarding their wellbeing.

The charity is seeking two new trustees, one with experience in HR and one with experience in digital solutions to drive its strategy forward and improve the quality of life of unpaid carers in North Tyneside.

You skills will help drive North Tyneside Carers' Centre's strategic plan and support its growing number of carers, including young carers from age 5.
