Every child deserves safety, love, and the freedom to grow up connected to their family, language, and culture.
On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we remember the Indigenous children who never returned home from residential schools. We honour Survivors, their families, and communities, and acknowledge the grief and lasting harm caused by a system that sought to erase Indigenous identities.
These harms continue across generations. So does our responsibility to listen, learn, and act.
At SCIC, we encourage people across Saskatchewan to attend public commemorative gatherings, listen to Indigenous voices as they tell their stories and learn the truths of residential schools. Read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. Support Indigenous-led initiatives. Challenge racism and advocate for Indigenous rights in our own communities and institutions.

Our hope for the future must be matched by action today: action toward a future where First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children grow up safe, supported, and proud of who they are, and where Indigenous Peoples’ rights, languages, cultures, and self-determination are respected.
Attend with care, follow the guidance of organizers, and carry the learning beyond September 30.
