This weekend the World Champion of Public Speaking will be decided. The competition concludes at the annual international convention being held in Vancouver.

Words Pack a Punch

The words we choose can make an ordinary message memorable. Instead of saying someone is good at something, try exceptional, skilled, or outstanding. Instead of saying a presentation was interesting, try thought-provoking, compelling, or insightful. And instead of saying “I’m very excited,” say “I’m thrilled.” Strong, specific words give your message energy, paint a clearer picture, and help your audience feel what you mean. This week, look for one ordinary word you use often and replace it with a word that packs a little more punch.

From time to time we challenge our members to do some tasks which contribute to their personal success and the health of the club. One of our latest challenge winners was Ashton (L). She was presented with a beautiful etched, clear glass coffee mug by our Vice President Education, Connie, on the right. Coffee mugs are good for her 😀. The other winner was Anne Connors. Kudos to both of you.

The Ice Breaker is the first speech that all Toastmasters give. Its purpose is for the club to get to know the new member and for the new member to learn the basic elements of speech structure. It was a well told story of highlights of her life.
