Last week during Laing House programming, members not only created their own keychains - they also visited the Keychain Library during their group walk, where they could swap for a new one or take one home!

Shoutout to the Halifax Keychain Library for bringing joy to our community!

When Alex first came to Laing House, he was searching for connection, purpose, and a place to belong.

Over the years, he found more than that. Through supportive programs, meaningful relationships, and a community that believed in him, Alex built confidence, discovered his values, earned a Bachelor of Science in Recreational Therapy, and now works in roles he loves helping others through his lived experience.

Today, Alex says, "Laing House ended up being the biggest force of positive change in my life."

His story is a powerful reminder of what's possible when young people have access to the right support at the right time.

As we welcome new members seeking their own path forward, your support helps ensure they have the same opportunity to grow, connect, and thrive.

💙 Will you help other young adults like Alex take their first step?

The Masquerade will not be taking place in 2026, but we're unmasking mental illness in a whole new way.

Our board chair, Jane Machum, and longtime supporter, Leilany Garron-Mills, are halfway through the Camino del Norte. With 400km down and 400km to go along Spain's northern coast, they're raising essential funds for Laing House.

Show up for our members in a different way this year. By supporting their initiative, you're helping build a strong, supportive community.

Laing House is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia grant! These funds directly support Nova Scotians with lived mental health experience, and at Laing House, they are helping bring our new “Last Chapter” programming to life.

“Last Chapter” was created to support members as they prepare to transition out of Laing House by helping them explore community resources outside the house while strengthening friendships and support systems along the way.

For our most recent outing, members enjoyed an afternoon of “Glitter Bean and Ice Cream”🍦

At Glitter Bean Café, members learned more about free social and mental health support groups offered in the space, including Spectrum Connect through Healthy Minds Cooperative! Afterward, the group grabbed ice cream and enjoyed a walk through the Public Gardens together.

We’re excited to continue offering monthly, accessible, wheelchair-friendly social/community activities for our members.

We’re grateful for this funding through the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia’s Community Grant Program. Thanks to your donations to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia, we’re .
