Rotary Halifax Harbour

Rotary Halifax Harbour Do good locally and internationally, personal and professional growth and development, and have fun. Pierre & Miquelon.

We are part of District 7815, joining other clubs from Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and St. The many projects of the Halifax Harbour members make a difference in our local community and around the world - on top of the wonderful fellowship we all enjoy at our meetings and social gatherings. Some of our local longstanding projects include working with the children at St. Pats Ale

xandra School, Amanda's Gift, and our Youth Exchange Program. We have recently been involved with the Salvation Army Red Kettle's for the past two Christmas seasons. Our international projects include having team members help setting up community vegetable gardens in the Dominican Republic as well as supporting Shelterbox to provide housing after international disasters such as the earthquake in Haiti and Japan.

Last Wednesday night a mighty contingent of Halifax Harbour Rotarians and allies and friends showed up at the Grand Parade in downtown Halifax to help spread awareness of Spinal CSF leaks.

Halifax City Hall and the Nova Scotia Legislature were lit in purple to help observe Spinal CSF Awareness Week. Rotary is here for you, Jillian Gibson!

Today our featured Paul Harris Fellowship Award nominee is teacher and mentor Eileen Millett. Eileen taught for 28 years in Halifax-area elementary schools.

After devising and running a volunteer program that created a broad network of support for the children, Eileen was inspired to return to school and trained to be a teacher.

Her career included a secondment to Mount Saint Vincent University where she taught and mentored future elementary school teachers. In retirement, she returned to Joseph Howe School to become the volunteer coordinator for the Partners Assisting Local Schools program (PALS).

We celebrate Eileen and other exceptional community leaders at our Paul Harris Fellowship Awards night at The Westin Nova Scotian at 6:30 pm on May 7th. For TICKETS, contact Valerie at [email protected]

Rosemarie’s nearly lifelong connection to Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) spans more than 60 years, from her arrival as a student to her transition to psychology professor and to her appointment as Dean of Professional Studies.

In addition to her academic and other professional contributions, Rosemarie has contributed her expertise as a volunteer on the Capital Health Board of Directors, and to the Nova Scotia Department of Health’s initiative in developing a strategic framework for long-term care for the province.

Today's featured Paul Harris Fellowship Award nominee is Bill Cullen, a tribute and award we dedicate posthumously.

Bill Cullen was a true Rotarian.

Bill combined his strong belief in the mission of Rotary with his easy going nature and good sense of humour. This made him the ideal Rotarian.

He joined the Rotary Club of Halifax Harbour in 2024 and quickly became indispensable to the success of our Club’s signature Ribfest event that takes place on the waterfront each summer. Bill was a proud member of our Club, and found purpose within a community of like-minded individuals with a mission to serve.

If Bill were here, he would tell you that his greatest accomplishment in his all too short life was raising his daughters, Rebecca and Victoria Cullen. Bill passed away in 2025, and the Club misses him dearly. We are honoured to recognize Bill with a Paul Harris Fellowship Award.

We celebrate Bill and other exceptional community leaders at our Paul Harris Fellowship Awards night at The Westin Nova Scotian at 6:30 pm on May 7th. For TICKETS, contact Valerie at [email protected]

Today our featured Paul Harris Fellowship nominee is Dr. Jacqueline (Jacquie) Gahagan!

Jacqueline is the Associate Vice-President Research at Mount Saint Vincent University. Their longstanding body of health promotion research focuses on health inequities among
marginalized populations. In devoting their career and life to representing the interests of underserved communities, they have evaluated policy and programming interventions using
s*x and gender-based analyses.

From the outset of their career and through volunteer roles, they have helped those historically underserved groups on the edges of our community such as those living with HIV or other
s*xually transmitted infections, 2S/LGBTQ2IA+ seniors and youth, and women in conflict with the law.

We celebrate Jacqueline and other exceptional community leaders at our Paul Harris Fellowship Awards night at The Westin Nova Scotian at 6:30 pm on May 7th. For TICKETS, contact Valerie at [email protected]

Today our featured Paul Harris Fellowship nominee is Jeff Goodspeed! Jeff is a celebrated local and international musician, music educator, and community cultural developer. Jeff is
renowned for his work with youth, and encouraging musical growth and development.

Jeff helped found Los Primos, a cultural and music exchange program. Los Primos focuses on a shared passion for Latin and Jazz music. The countless hours he has volunteered to provide young Cuban and Nova Scotia musicians with the opportunity to further their passion through learning and performance has launched a generation of talent and advanced cultural understanding.

On May 7th, our Club will honour several community leaders with Paul Harris Fellowship Awards. We'll profile each of them in the coming days, beginning today! The Paul Harris Awards recognize outstanding community leadership and people who advance the Rotary Foundation's goals of world peace and international understanding.

Today's honoree: JOYCE CARTER. As the President and CEO of the Halifax International Airport for more than 25 years, Joyce is recognized as one of the most influential figures in Canadian aviation and as a passionate advocate for gender diversity in leadership roles across the transportation and infrastructure sectors. Her commitment to the aviation industry is reflected in her local, national, and international volunteer toles, including serving as Chair of the Canadian Airports Council, as a board member of the Airports Council International (ACI) World Governing Board, and the president of the Atlantic Canada Airports Association board.

We thank Joyce for her community leadership! For tickets to our 6:30 pm May 7th Paul Harris Fellowship Awards night at The Westin Nova Scotian, contact Valerie Bobyk at [email protected]

✨ Honouring Those Who Make a Difference ✨

Join us on May 7th at 6:30 PM at The Westin Nova Scotian for our Paul Harris Fellowship Ceremony.

Named after Paul Harris, founder of Rotary International, this recognition celebrates individuals who go above and beyond in service to others.

This year, we’re proud to be honouring six local champions and three past presidents whose leadership and commitment have helped shape our community.

Over the years, this recognition has also been awarded to notable changemakers such as Jimmy Carter and Bill Gates—individuals whose impact extends far beyond their own communities.

This evening is about more than awards—it’s about the people who quietly strengthen our community every day.

💙 Come celebrate their impact with us.
