A major milestone for the protection of children in Colombia 🇨🇴

On June 1st, the Dallaire Institute officially launched its first Training of Trainers (ToT) in Colombia.

From more than 160 Colombian military and police personnel previously certified through our Basic Courses, 11 participants from the Armed Forces and National Police were selected to take part in this inaugural ToT. Over two weeks, they were trained, assessed, and evaluated to become the first Colombian instructors certified by the Dallaire Institute.

This marks an important step toward strengthening national ownership and institutional capacity, ensuring the long-term sustainability of efforts to prevent the recruitment and use of children in armed violence across the country and across the region.

Last week, the Dallaire Institute in collaboration with Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) and with the support of Global Affairs Canada, convened a five-day workshop in Abuja, Nigeria🇳🇬, for journalists on the prevention of the recruitment and use of children in armed violence.

The workshop focused on strengthening ethical reporting practices around the vulnerabilities faced by children and affected communities, while also exploring how the media can help raise awareness and support efforts to prevent child recruitment and use in armed violence.

By strengthening responsible journalism, we can help ensure that children's experiences are reported with dignity, accuracy, and care.
