David Suzuki Foundation Blue Dot Halifax

David Suzuki Foundation Blue Dot Halifax People across Canada are standing up, demanding our inherent right to live in a healthy environment be recognized by all levels of government.

The Blue Dot Movement is nation-wide grassroots mobilization supported by the David Suzuki Foundation and Ecojustice. The goal is to have our inherent right to a healthy environment - to safe drinking water, clean air, healthy food, and decisions that affect our livels - recognized in by all levels of government in Canada. Currently they are not. Here in Halifax we are calling upon the municipal g

overnment to pass a declaration to commit to this vision. People in municipalities across the country will begin the grassroots mobilization needed to call upon our provincial governments to do the same, and this will lay the foundation for a national-level campaign.

Even when the price of gas goes down for the driver, it doesn’t go down for everyone else. The pollution from burning gas continues to cost our community health & our children’s future world. If the price at the pump went down to $0 it would still be more expensive to our whole community (including the driver) than driving on electricity.

“What the climate needs to avoid collapse is a contraction in humanity's use of resources; what our economic model demands to avoid collapse is unfettered expansion. Only one of these sets of rules can be changed, and it's not the laws of nature.”

Did you know? When someone switches from a fossil-fueled vehicle to an EV, or chooses an EV over an FFV, it helps to bring the price of gas down for everyone else?

Basic Econ101 supply & demand dominates international fossil fuel prices, so whether it’s someone here at home or across the world every EV represents less demand for gas & ultimately lower prices. So even if you refuse to drive an EV yourself, it’s in your best financial interest to encourage others to do so, or at least not to discourage them.

In addition to your best financial interest, someone else choosing an EV is also in the best interest of your health, the health of your family & friends, and your children’s future chances of living a safe, healthy, and prosperous life.

People choosing EVs bring down other costs too:
* heating fuels
* taxes spent on healthcare
* taxes spent on climate-related disasters & mitigation

…& others that are less obvious:
* the price of electricity (because EVs add largely off-peak load, spreading the same fixed costs over more kWh of sales)
* the price of road maintenance (because just delivering fuel to gas stations for the life of an FFV damages our roads as much as a lifetime of driving an EV …& EV fuel delivery causes no road damage)

Offshore wind farms consist of numerous turbines positioned in bodies of water to harvest wind energy for electricity generation. These installations take advantage of the higher wind speeds available over the open sea compared to land-based sites.

The expansion of renewable energy infrastructure is a primary goal for many nations seeking to modernize their utility grids. By installing large-scale wind arrays, countries can provide power to millions of residential properties while reducing the environmental impact of traditional energy production.

Engineering these structures involves placing massive foundations into the seabed and connecting them via a network of underwater cables. This technology allows for the capture of clean energy on a scale that was previously difficult to achieve with older methods.

The transition toward wind power helps to stabilize energy independence by utilizing local natural resources rather than relying on external fuel supplies. It represents a significant shift in how modern societies plan for long-term resource management and sustainability.

While wind remains a variable source of power, ongoing improvements in grid management and storage technology help integrate it into the daily lives of citizens. These projects serve as a cornerstone for the global move toward a more diversified and resilient energy mix.

Government sacrifices public services to bring gas down 10 cents, the market responds and puts it back up a few days later, and then even more the day after that (i.e. tomorrow).

Get an EV and permanently escape the madness — it’s like taking >100 cents off a liter of gas forever!

Did you know? Every person who switches to an EV helps to bring the price of gas down, by bringing demand down, for everyone else. If it wasn’t for EV drivers today the price of gas would likely be ~10% higher than the high price it already is!
