Schoolwork, homework and creative activities should feel comfortable and achievable, no matter what chair or support a child uses.

Our team created a height-adjustable desk for a student who needed the right working height across different supports, including a manual wheelchair, power wheelchair, desk chair and standing frame.

To support greater independence, we sourced a commercially available adjustable desk frame and added a durable, waterproof laminate tabletop with raised edges to help stop books, pencils and other items from falling off the side or back.

A clever solution can make everyday activities easier, safer and more accessible.

Need a personalised equipment solution? Contact our team by phone, email or by submitting the contact form on our website.

Freedom Solutions Australia is delighted to be a finalist in the 2026 HESTA Excellence Awards in the Disability Services - Team Excellence category!

The Safe Ride team is recognised for a national innovation project addressing a critical and largely unrecognised road safety risk: passengers with disability unbuckling or escaping restraints in moving vehicles.

The team identified unbuckling as not only a restraint issue, but also a response to overstimulation, discomfort or loss of control. They brought together industrial designers, engineers, allied health professionals, car manufacturers, researchers and people with lived experience to co-design six new assistive technology solutions – two active restraint innovations addressing unsafe buckle release and four environmental and sensory solutions to reduce distress and improve self-regulation. Beginning with national co-design workshops, the team progressed concepts through CAD modelling, risk assessment and real-world prototype trials, mapping compliance against relevant Australian standards throughout.

Trials demonstrated reduced escape behaviours and calmer journeys, with carers reporting fewer mid-trip stops. Safe Ride fills a genuine market gap, providing families, clinicians and the disability community with practical, evidence-based pathways toward safer vehicle travel.

🚲 Growing Health Communities – Supporting Freedom Wheels Expansion

We’re excited to share that VicHealth is funding regional Freedom Wheels partnership establishment work through the Growing Healthy Communities program!

With a Round One project underway in Ballarat and a Round Two project set to begin in Gippsland, this support will expand access to customised assistive technology. Regional partnerships will help enable inclusive cycling opportunities for people with disability across Victoria.

Recently we had the pleasure of welcoming VicHealth and our local MP Anthony Cianflone (Anthony Cianflone MP ) to our Coburg North workshop. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase how our dedicated staff and volunteers work alongside people with disability to co-design personalised assistive technology and equipment solutions.

The visit sparked important conversations about:
βœ… The need for customised assistive technology
βœ… The importance of accessible, community-based services
βœ… Supporting independence, participation, and quality of life for people with disability and their families

Are you an engineer, tradesperson or an expert handy person who is looking for a way to give back to the community?
Come and join Freedom Solutions Australia (FSA)!

Currently we are looking for:
πŸ”§ Technical Volunteers
🚲 Bike Build Volunteers (Northmead NSW & Coburg North VIC)
πŸš› Courier Volunteers
πŸš— Safe Ride Volunteers

As a πŸ”§ Technical Volunteer, you will be involved in co-designing and building unique, custom assistive technology equipment with and for people with disability and their carers. Depending on your skills and location, you will also have opportunities to build our 'off the shelf' range.

As a 🚲 Bike Build Volunteers, you will be in charge of building various trikes and bikes that were specifically customised for each rider.

πŸš› Courier Volunteers get to deliver our products to our clients door! Many of our courier volunteers enjoy seeing the clients smile when they get their very own equipment. We have our customers not only in metro areas but also in regional NSW and VIC, so if you love driving, this is a perfect role for you!

πŸš— Safe Ride Volunteers will be working on products that support in-car safety. Many people with disability and their carers face challenges when travelling in a car such as unwanted unbuckling, feeling trapped, and losing sense of control. As a result of 20-month project, we have come up with 6 designs to tackle these challenges but some still need refinement. Join us to make car trips safe and enjoyable for everyone!

If you're interested, get in touch with us by submitting 'Become a Volunteer' form on our website!
