Currently we are looking for:
🔧 Technical Volunteers
🚲 Bike Build Volunteers (Northmead NSW & Coburg North VIC)
🚛 Courier Volunteers
🚗 Safe Ride Volunteers

As a 🔧 Technical Volunteer, you will be involved in co-designing and building unique, custom assistive technology equipment with and for people with disability and their carers. Depending on your skills and location, you will also have opportunities to build our 'off the shelf' range.

As a 🚲 Bike Build Volunteers, you will be in charge of building various trikes and bikes that were specifically customised for each rider.

🚛 Courier Volunteers get to deliver our products to our clients door! Many of our courier volunteers enjoy seeing the clients smile when they get their very own equipment. We have our customers not only in metro areas but also in regional NSW and VIC, so if you love driving, this is a perfect role for you!

🚗 Safe Ride Volunteers will be working on products that support in-car safety. Many people with disability and their carers face challenges when travelling in a car such as unwanted unbuckling, feeling trapped, and losing sense of control. As a result of 20-month project, we have come up with 6 designs to tackle these challenges but some still need refinement. Join us to make car trips safe and enjoyable for everyone!

A day filled with lots of brainstorming, insights from Lived Experience panels and practical workshops!

At Innovation AT and Practice Day in Melbourne last week, we welcomed AT industry experts, AT engineers and Lived Experience panels to talk about current and future assistive technology focusing on mobility, participation and inclusion.

It was fantastic to see so many of you taking notes non-stop, your active engagement and connecting with each other.

Virtual Reality for the Car utilises technology to create a virtual space for a passenger to engage in and have control of. Its goal is to enhance passengers' experience of travel with engaging experiences, and through this, to support emotional regulation while travelling.

Outside Car Vision’s goal is to offer passengers greater visual engagement and orientation during travel, and to support them to feel more connected to places they are travelling through, and in control of their view.

This week, Freedom Solutions Australia would like to introduce two panels to you - Tracey Watters and Gillian Walker.

Tracey Watters is a senior not‑for‑profit leader with more than 28 years’ executive experience. She is known for transforming financially vulnerable organisations into sustainable, entities by uniting government, service providers, communities, and consumers.

Dr. Gill Walker brings more than 30 years of health sector experience, combining deep clinical expertise with senior executive leadership across public, private, and not-for-profit health care. With a nursing background, a Master of Public Health, and a Professional Doctorate in Health and Social Sciences, Dr. Walker is committed to creating empowering, high-performing environments for teams and ensuring services deliver meaningful, measurable outcomes for the communities they serve.

The design concept for the In-car Sensory Zone explores how the rear seating area of a vehicle can be transformed into an environment that meets needs. Inspired by sensory ‘pods’ used in home settings, the design aims to create a similar sense of comfort and engagement within the car.

“I know with my granddaughter, if she had something like this in the back seat of the car, I don’t think she’d ever take her seatbelt off – I’d probably have trouble getting her out! At home, she has sensory tents over her bed and in the playroom, and she just loves them. If she could Bluetooth her music into it and have some LEDs or lights as part of the setup, she’d be in her element. Carer workshop participant, Vic
