Hello Hobart!

We’re so excited to be here. After launching in Launceston in 2024, we’re now expanding into the heart of Tassie’s capital. 💛💛

Our brand new yellow van is now on the every week collecting quality surplus food from 12 Woolworths stores across Hobart, and delivering it to 15 charities who are supporting people in need.

None of this would be possible without our National Food Rescue Partner and their incredible teams on the ground.

Watch this space as our operations grow. If you want to support us in Hobart we’d love to hear from you! Email [email protected]

John* relies on food relief because there is nothing left in his pantry.

“I ran out of food. I’m a pensioner and I’m limited by my means,” John says. “The hunger is there and when you’re on medication and not eating, it’s a bad idea.”

Food relief can be the difference between staying well and falling between the cracks. For John – and people like him – food relief is often a lifeline.

From now until Giving Day, Thursday 18 June, every dollar you donate is matched, creating lifelines for people in need.

Chef Ross, our Kitchen Operations Lead in Melbourne, is dedicated to transforming rescued food into delicious dishes for our community.

He thrives on the people and the creativity that comes with his role. “I love working with an amazing bunch of people and sharing recipes and cooking skills with volunteers.”

Formerly an Executive Chef at For Change Co, Chef Ross has a deep understanding of food’s impact – how it can restore dignity, hope, and bring people together.

He was drawn to OzHarvest because it gave him the chance to use his culinary skills for good, tackling food waste head-on. “I’m really inspired by the diverse range of food rescued by our drivers. It allows the kitchen team to create incredible meals”.

Right now, the recipe he’s most excited about is his mouthwatering Sticky Date Pudding, which he’ll be teaching at Cooking for a Cause sessions this winter.

Thank you, Chef Ross, for your dedication to nourishing our community and transforming rescued food into incredible meals! 💛

“The Caterpillar nourishes Country, and Country in turn nourishes the Caterpillar. This is in perfect synergy with OzHarvest's mission.”

'Anumara - Caterpillar Dreaming' by Yurpiya Lionel, is our chosen artwork for OzHarvest’s first Reconciliation Action Plan and is featured in a 12 metre installation in the event space at the heart of our HQ.

This National Reconciliation Week, we had the privilege of welcoming special guests from - Pitjantjatjara artists and sisters Alison Milyika Carroll and Pantjiti Lewis, and Art Centre Manager Rowena Withers, to our HQ, supported by Nichola Dare from .contemporary who connected OzHarvest to the artwork.

At an ‘All In’ morning tea we learned more about remote community art and reflected on the deep responsibility we all carry to care for Country. A huge thank you to Alison, Pantjiti, Rowena and Nichola for sharing your time and wisdom with us during National Reconciliation Week.

Emily’s* mum is the only consistent earner in their household. Both her and her dad have diagnosed mental health conditions. Their budget is incredibly tight, and food is one of the first things to go.

When they found their way to OzHarvest, our help delivered hope.

"It makes me feel good," she told us. "It helps me socialise and get out of the house."

Food is the foundation. When people have it, everything else becomes possible. From now until Giving Day, Thursday 18 June, every dollar you donate is matched, helping to create hope for people in need.

Having a job used to mean having enough. For a growing number of Australians, that is no longer true.

31% of the people seeking food relief from the charities we support are employed and still finding there is nothing left after rent and bills. Food is the only flexible item in a budget that has no room to move.

Swipe to hear from working families doing it tough.

From now until Giving Day, Thursday 18 June, every dollar you donate is matched, so we can help feed more families in need.
