🤖 National Science Week 2026 is almost here! 🤖

From 15-23 August 2026, Guides across Australia can step into the shoes of a CSIRO robotics engineer and take part in the exciting CSIRO Robot Responders National Science Experiment.

We’re delighted to welcome Sue O’Malley as the new Chair of Girl Guides Australia.

Sue brings more than 30 years of senior leadership experience, strong governance capability and deep commitment to mission driven organisations. Her work with Life Ed Australia and her broader board experience reflect a leadership style grounded in transparency, collaboration and constructive challenge.

We look forward to the insight, stability and strategic direction Sue will bring as she works with the Board, staff and the Girl Guides community to guide the organisation into its next chapter.

Day 6: The last day of the conference today. The week has gone so quick but also feels like we have been here for ages.

The day started with presentations of awards and medals of service as well as a handover from the current Board to the new team. One of the special parts of the ceremony is when a person finishes their term on the Board, they take off their WAGGGS scarf and their country delegation comes on stage and welcomes them back to the guiding family in their home country.

More voting before, during and after lunch. And then the announcement of where the next World Conference will be. Countries are invited to bid for the event and presented yesterday. The 2029 World conference will be in Rwanda 🇷🇼.

WAGGGS turns 100 in 2028 with lots of celebrations planned. The theme is One movement for every girl. I’m sure there will be lots of exciting things coming out next year about it.

Final celebration dinner at the Terrace of Elephants with cultural performances and girls doing and sharing handicrafts. Fantastic way to end an amazing event.

So I think that is me signing off from the World conference. I hope you have felt in a small way part of our global movement. Helen.

Day 5: it really was Natasha’s day however before the World Board announcement we started an hour earlier than planned to fit in a session we missed yesterday as the voting took longer than planned.

A report from the World Board on the last 3 years including achievements and financials. Then break out sessions on a range of topics - keeping girls past 11, meaningful youth participation, changing nature of volunteering, using WAGGGS resources and the relevance of non-formal learning in a digital and AI world. Really interesting global perspectives.

Afternoon it was back to discussing non constitutional motions before joining the OB-PS members for their annual fundraising dinner.
