Right now, every dollar donated to SecondBite will be matched by the Hupert Family Foundation up to $175,000. That means your gift goes twice as far. Help rescue fresh, nutritious surplus food and get it to people in Australia who are struggling to put meals on their tables. In 2025, almost 1 in 3 Australian households experienced food insecurity. The need is growing and your support has never mattered more. Please donate before 30 June: https://bit.ly/secondbite1

The National Reconciliation Week 2026 theme challenges us to be All In and commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day. SecondBite is answering that call by supporting First Nations communities facing food insecurity through our Meals for the Mob Program.

Today is National Sorry Day. A day that exists so we can acknowledge and reflect on what was historically done to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families and the wounds that are still healing.

The Stolen Generations are not just a chapter in the history books of Australia. They are Elders still alive today who are piecing their lives and family histories back together and it is critical that we remember this, as we reflect on the past, present and what the future will look like for all communities in Australia.

Today is about recognising the pain, suffering and ongoing hurt and harm that our past continues to have on First Nations peoples.

Tomorrow marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week and how we can move towards reconciliation, but today we pause, reflect and honour the children who didn’t come home.

The Melbourne Food Rescue Network is LIVE!

Yesterday morning we were thrilled to join Lord Mayor Nick Reece the Hon. Luba Grigorovitch MP, and our program partners including Queen Victoria Market (QVM), City of Melbourne and STREAT to launch this important initiative.

Through the Melbourne Food Rescue Network, SecondBite will move rescued produce from the market to frontline food relief partners, making sure fresh, nutritious food reaches people who need it most.

It’s a practical response to two challenges we see every day: too much good food going to waste, while too many people are struggling to afford the food they need.

In its pilot month, the program is already having impact. So far, we’ve collected 1 tonne of food donated by QVM traders and redistributed it to local charity partners, providing much-needed food relief to Melburnians.

With thanks to the Victorian Government and City of Melbourne for funding this initiative, we look forward to bringing this network to life and delivering a practical, local response to food surplus and food insecurity.

This National Volunteer Week, we’re recognising the incredible people behind the scenes who help make our work possible — our volunteers.

From sorting fresh produce and packing food donations to supporting our warehouses, kitchens and day-to-day operations, our volunteers play a vital role in helping good food reach people who need it most.

Their contribution helps strengthen communities, prevent good food from being wasted, and ensure more Australians can access nutritious food when they need it most 🍎

In April we rescued 2,092,337 kg of good food — that's 4,184,674 meal equivalents going to Australians who need it most.

If your business has surplus food, we can turn it into fresh hampers, grocery support, or nutritious ready-to-eat meals in our FareShare kitchens; all shared free of charge through our nationwide charity network.

We collect directly from farms, markets and distributors. Get in touch at [email protected] or visit secondbite.org/donate-food

Let's turn surplus into support.
