Big Group Hug

Big Group Hug Supporting vulnerable children in Victoria one Big Group Hug at a time 🧸 This is unacceptable and unfathomable.

At Big Group Hug, we're on a mission to inspire you to support the immediate needs of vulnerable children and their families. Together, we can redistribute free essential aid for children aged newborn
to 16 years - items of absolute necessity including toiletries, clothing, books, infant formula,
nappies, car seats, prams, bedding and more - through our extensive network of health and welfare agen

cies and community organisations. The children and families we support are living in financial crisis due to family violence, unemployment/underemployment, homelessness, and seeking refuge. Carers are often forced to choose between providing dependent children with warm clothing and safe bedding, or a hot meal.

1 in 6 children in Australia live below the poverty line. As a community, we can join forces to ensure these children have the essentials they need to thrive. We are all individuals with a strong belief in ensuring that all children deserve the best start in life, and that communities have the ability and a desire to give less fortunate families a big group hug and some practical support in their time of need. Join us today.
- Pass on your children's hand-me-downs for us to repurpose with another family

We’re so grateful to our wonderful friends at the Inner Wheel Australia for their generous donation of crocheted blankets and hand-sewn drawstring bags. Each item has been made with care and will provide warmth and that special homemade touch to children and families doing it tough in our community.

The Inner Wheel Club is the world’s largest voluntary women’s service organisation, bringing women together through community service, friendship, and shared purpose. If you’re looking for a way to get involved locally, they’re always welcoming new members, whether your interest is volunteering, fundraising, or simply connecting with others through social and community activities.

She left to keep her children safe, but safety was only the beginning.

When Michelle and her daughters escaped an abusive home, they still needed clothes, toiletries, bedding, baby items and all the everyday essentials that make a house feel like home.

Big Group Hug helped provide the practical support they needed to start again. Today, we're supporting more families than ever before, but demand continues to outpace the resources available.

Before 30 June, your tax-deductible donation can help ensure children and families have access to essential items when they need them most.

Because when a parent finds the courage to leave, they shouldn't have to start from nothing. Read Michelle's story and donate before 30 June here > https://tax-appeal.biggrouphug.org/?utm_source=social_media&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=michelle_post2

That's a huge carload of coats! Big huge thanks to our wonderful friends at Off Your Back!

We've been partnering with Off Your Back for several years, where the adult coats donated to Big Group Hug are passed on to Off Your Back, while the children's coats they receive make their way to us, ensuring warm winter clothing reaches the people who need it most.

Collaboration like this is incredibly important. When charities work together, share resources and focus on their strengths, we can extend our reach, reduce waste, and support those in our community facing hardship.

As winter sets in and demand for warm clothing continues to grow, partnerships like these help ensure more people have the essentials they need to stay warm, healthy and comfortable.

Wowzers! We’re so grateful to Nido Early School Rosanna for this generous donation! Not only have they taken part in our Winter Warmers campaign, but they also saw our recent call-out for urgently needed toiletries and stepped in to help straight away.

It’s a wonderful example of a community responding quickly and thoughtfully to need, and we’re so appreciative of their support.

We’re so grateful to Where We Grow Early Learning in Craigieburn for the incredibly thoughtful way they supported Big Group Hug in the lead up to Mother’s Day.

Their fundraising raffle raised $295, while their donation drive collected much-needed items for children and families in our community.

It’s always special to see a community of families and educators coming together to help other families doing it tough. Every item and every dollar will go directly towards providing everyday essentials for children who need them most.

28/05/2026

Big Group Hug CEO Bernadene Voss shares how more families are struggling to afford the basics for their children. As the cost of living continues to rise, these everyday essentials are becoming harder to afford. The basics aren’t basic when you don’t have them.

Make your tax-deductible donation before 30 June to help children feel safe, warm, and supported at the link in the comments.

You’re never too young to make a difference! During the school holidays, Amara, her siblings, and her friend decided to run their own fundraiser for Big Group Hug, and thanks to the incredible support of their fantastic neighbours in the Eltham community, they raised $237!

The girls sold homemade cookies, brownies, and hot chocolates topped with marshmallows, fresh cream and chocolate sauce, which were VERY WELL received by locals stopping by!

What a terrific way to spend the school holidays while helping children and families doing it tough, proving what can happen when young people are encouraged to support others from an early age.

A huge thank you to Amara, her friend, and everyone who supported their stall!

After our recent call out for winter clothing, Les Twentyman Foundation in Footscray reached out again with a very large donation of brand-new clothing for teens! These are the exact items children need right now to stay warm through winter. A huge thanks to our good friends at Les Twentyman, these items will go straight to children who need it.
