🐝 What a wonderful Working Bee at Kids First Fairy Hills Kinder last Sunday!
Despite Melbourne's best attempts at rain, families arrived full of enthusiasm and got so much done. It was so lovely to see the little ones joining in alongside their families - proudly helping and being part of the day.
There's something really special about families, children and educators coming together to care for a shared space. These moments strengthen our sense of community and remind our little ones about the importance of caring for the places and people around them.
A heartfelt thank you to every family who gave their time, and to our wonderful staff who also volunteered their Sunday alongside you.

How do we move from evidence to everyday practice in the early years?

Kids First Australia’s Early Years Model Lead Shelley Fallowfield presented at the national FRSA Conference in Brisbane, exploring how our Early Years Education Program (EYEP) and Early Help Hubs work together as a connected ecosystem of support around children and families.

The presentation focused on trauma-informed practice, educator capability, relational safety and the importance of prevention-focused support within trusted early childhood environments.

Because when we strengthen educator confidence, family connection and relational safety, we strengthen childhoods.

If your organisation is exploring trauma-informed early years practice, educator capability-building or integrated family support approaches, we’d love to continue the conversation.

Behind every program, every moment of support and every safe connection at Kids First, there are people generously giving their time to others.

This National Volunteer Week, we celebrated the 140 volunteers contributing across 12 Kids First programs and recognised the care, connection and community they help create alongside our teams.

From mentoring young people and supporting families, to welcoming communities through our Op Shops and programs, our volunteers continue to play an important role in strengthening outcomes for children, young people and families.

As one volunteer shared:
“Volunteering at Kids First makes me a better person, it’s a privilege to be of service.”

Thank you to every volunteer who continues to show up for our communities.

Every child deserves a safe place to sleep.

But right now, too many don’t.

Some children are sleeping on couches, blow-up mattresses or bedding on the floor.

Without proper sleep, children can struggle to concentrate at school, regulate their emotions and engage in support.

Your donation can help provide essential household items and support families to create safer, more stable homes - starting with a safe place to sleep.

Donate before 30 June. https://www.kidsfirstaustralia.org.au/donate/

Today, Kids First Australia was part of national discussions at the launch of an Australian Human Rights Commission report commissioned by National Children’s Commissioner Tsorbaris, focused on strengthening engagement with children and stopping violence before it begins.
For 130 years, Kids First Australia has worked alongside children, young people and families, experience that continues to inform conversations about prevention, child wellbeing and safety.
The report reinforces something central to our practice: children must be genuinely listened to, involved in decisions that affect them, and supported through safe, connected and trauma-informed relationships.
Important conversations shaping stronger and safer communities through prevention, early intervention and amplifying children’s voices.
Because this starts with listening, connection and acting early.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month - and yesterday, some of our team took a small but meaningful step to mark it.

Wear It Denim Day is observed each year on the last Wednesday of April as a visible sign of solidarity with survivors of sexual assault. It's a simple gesture, but one that carries real weight.

Globally, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men experience sexual assault in their lifetime. These are not just numbers. They reflect the lived experiences of many people in our communities - and some of the people we have the privilege of supporting every day.

At Kids First Australia, the people we support are at the heart of everything we do. Standing with them means showing up for the issues that matter.

What a day. ☀️
Our charity golf day with Kieser Australia at Latrobe Golf Club last week was everything — sunshine, great company, and a whole lot of heart. Thank you to every player, sponsor, and supporter who showed up and made it happen.
The best part? Every dollar raised goes directly to supporting children and families through Kids First Australia. We're tallying up the final total and can't wait to share it with you soon.

We joined Wyndham Youth Services and local young people for their Cultural and Diversity Celebration — a day shaped by community, creativity and collaboration.

It was fantastic to connect with young people and partners, and to be part of a space that celebrates identity, belonging and shared experiences.

Thanks to Wyndham Youth Services for the invitation and for the work you do to bring community together. What are your experiences with cultural celebrations? Share in the comments!
