DVCS Food Collective is a local service of delivery and donation partners, community organisations and individuals working together to address food security challenges for vulnerable and disadvantaged community members in the Diamond Valley Region. A community pantry is a cupboard full of non-perishable food, located in an accessible space for community members who are experiencing food insecurity
to help themselves to. Most of the pantries in the Community Pantry Network are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, require no appointments and are open to whoever needs food. The Community Pantry Network has a “Give what you can, take what you need” philosophy with people able to donate to the pantry as well. Pantries consist largely healthy nutritious non-perishable food, toiletries and information to bring relief closer to where people need to access it. Each Community Pantry is managed by local community groups and is supported by Diamond Valley Community Support and the Food Collective Project. Food insecurity is being without reliable access to enough affordable, nutritious food for yourself or your family. According to Foodbank Victoria, three in ten Australians now experiencing food insecurity had not gone hungry before the pandemic. Who are The Food Collective Project? The Food Collective Project is a local network of delivery and donation partners, community organizations and individuals working together to address food insecurity, managed by Diamond Valley Community Support. The network operates throughout the Diamond Valley Region. The Food Collective Project is looking to increase the accessibility of food relief by establishing community pantries throughout Banyule and Nillumbik, in partnership with other community groups.
