Small things that leave dirt in your pocket

In my practice, walking and collecting is a constant and conscious way to communicate, investigate and connect with the past, present and future environment. Fragments of broken, lost and abandoned things become the sought. They are gathered and concocted as multi layered deposits, marks of time and banks of abstracted knowledge. By reconstructing stockpiled material into a figurative form, the works merge into a cycle of order and disorder, developing alternate perceptions within their direct habitat.
Bee Pea Enn, b. 1982, Gadigal/Sydney, is an autodidactic visual artist based in Helsinki, Finland. After moving to Naarm/Melbourne in 2002, he has been living and working in Europe for the past 13 years. In Germany from 2013-2017 and in Finland since 2018. Since 2017, Enn’s work has been focused on using found objects as a primary source of material.

As a Melbourne based artist specialising in photographic and digital works, my work with Yarra Sculpture Gallery marks my entry into photographic sculptural practice. Previously my work has been characterised by a focus on portraiture and commercial photography – capturing people, faces and products. Transcending into 3-dimensional form, I am now actively extending my current creative practice, adding a new sense of energy and renewa as I move forward. My previous residency with YSG has given me access to a supportive creative space in which to explore and test my photo sculptural ideas in more depth including explorations of what can be achieved with printing verses projection applications. The physical space of YSG facilitated an opportunity to engage in rigorous testing processes to develop and push creative outcomes using a combination of 2D images, projection, fabric and sculptural elements.
This work offers an immersive photo sculptural experience based around my relationship with the Redwood Forest in Warburton. Being in the Forest offers many benefits for both the body and mind. Moving among these ancient giants offers an opportunity for time to stand still with a connection to nature reminding us of the beauty and strength of the natural world. The forest& #39;s quiet atmosphere provides a welcome escape from busy, noisy environments, allowing us to slow down, breathe deeply, and clear our minds. Ultimately, a visit to the Forest can leave us feeling refreshed, peaceful, and deeply connected to the world around us. Take time to reflect on your own relationship with the natural world.

Winsome Spillerspiller
Winsome Spiller lives in Naarm / Melbourne, Australia. Her works span painting, installation
and objects. Experimenting with materials and processes is central to her practice. Her work
often concerns the urban environment, history, landscape and natural environment.
Winsome holds a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) from RMIT university and a Bachelor of
Town and Regional Planning from the University of Melbourne. She has exhibited since 2004
and her works are held in private collections and the collection of Artbank.

Archaeology of Practice 3
In Archaeology of practice Winsome Spiller presents a space where viewers can discover objects and structures made from remnants and fragments from her studio practice over the last decade. Like artifacts on an archaeological site, material clues to the artist's processes remain; including test objects, containers, dried paint, fabric and paper hangings, stencils, pigment encrusted plastic sheeting, old wooden stretchers and plaster tiles. Viewers can peep into a small structure like a greenhouse, housing a collection of colourful paint objects and hanging forms. A long abstract painting reminiscent of a fresco or mural, hung along one wall, evokes a journey or map to an undisclosed region.

The materiality of absence
The exhibition The materiality of absence explores my childhood memories through constructed sculptural forms. The installation aims to construct a world where everything is small to scale, disruptive, dysfunctional and unanchored. I question my connection to events and ask if what I remember is as reliable as I recall? My work explores this through the construction of lines and forms that create disconnected objects. The grid like structures are arranged in a precarious fashion, with pieces on top of each other and parts missing. I address the question of absence through the haunting blackened objects. The objects are not functioning as they should and the strangeness that pervades the once familiar objects leads me to question, what do I really remember?

Reflect on this…
Sally Vivian’s practice is cross-disciplinary, usually using installation. Aspects such as
transience, transformation of states, and materiality are explored in her work often using phenomena including light, reflection, water and duration. ‘Reflect on this…’ will reference climate change through melting ice, but also investigates embodied perception and ephemerality. Fleeting reflections point to instability, while the sound of the drips and disappearing ice can suggest the passage of time. The viewer may interact by creating shadows in reflections or by touching the water, thereby being implicated in the work, just as we are all implicated in climate change.
