Kids' Own Publishing Kids’ Own Publishing gives children a voice through artist-led collaborative publishing projects

Kids' Own Publishing works in partnership with community organisations, kindergartens, schools, libraries, health services, local councils and arts organisations. We collaborate to design and deliver innovative short and long term creative publishing projects. We are committed to continuously exploring new models for nurturing children's creativity and self belief and to sharing our learning through training, resources and consultancy.

Proud to be part of Jason Geria’s journey to the World Cup!

Jason Geria, jersey number 6 for the Socceroos, launched our book ‘Yjaaz and the Talented Souls of Children’ by the talented souls who undergo their education currently at Richmond West Primary School, in 2023.

In his launch speech, Jason told the authors to work hard, and never give up. And it looks like that advice works.

And this advice works for all talents, not just soccer.

And all children are very talented.

In our fifth workshop children were introduced to Hangul, the Korean writing system. They began with practice exercises on colourful hanji paper, and by the end were filling whole sheets with words, sentences, and poetry.

Children took inspiration from the Korean folk painting ‘Sipjangsaengdo’ to create beautiful embodied artworks where mountains, mushrooms, and suns abound.

Our fourth K-publishing workshop was all about books, books, and more books! Reading books written and illustrated by children. Reading books from Korea. Thinking about what it means to create a book together. And of course making, printing, and publishing 8-page books!

We’re more than halfway through the K-publishing program and although every workshop has been such a blast, this one did feel extra special.

This Art Book Fair is going off! We’ve had two fabulous days already meeting old friends and new and sharing a collection of recently published books with new readers. Although we’re so lucky to have been here every year since 2019, so many people are amazed to find a table covered with books BY kids for the first time. By kids! What? It’s a joy watching people of all ages pick up the books and read them, smiles splitting across their faces as they take in the humour, the variety of art making, the creative use of language … we’re back tomorrow from 10 until 5 in the Great Hall at

We will be at Melbourne Art Book Fair! Kids’ Own will have a brilliant selection of books that will be for sale at our stall from the 15th - 17th. Drop by to buy a book, browse, or just say hi!

Also on the 17th is our not-to-be-missed panel ‘Books by Kids for Kids in Kids’ Own Languages.’ Ailsa Wild will be talking to two young authors, Dr Julie Choi, and book designer Rio Ramintas about the spectacular book that is ‘My Place Our Place Benim Place Uri Place.’ We can’t wait to have this discussion, and hope to see you all there!

It was wonderful to see so many new faces at our third workshop! Thank you to everyone who came along to dance, cheer, and sing in this session that was all about K-pop.

Children in this session learned the choreography to LE SSERAFIM’s hit song ‘Spaghetti’ and made their own K-pop lightsticks. Huge shout out to Lily from O2 Dance Studios for being a brilliant instructor!

Our young authors have already made so much beautiful artwork for their book! At our fourth workshop this Saturday they’ll start putting it all together, and will also make their own unique 8-page books, printed and published on the spot. We’re looking forward to it!

Our second K-publishing workshop was all about kimchi!

In this session Dr Julie Choi talked about the love and labour that goes into preparing kimchi, and taught children the Korean words for the ingredients. Children then tasted some delicious kimchi from .city and created their own unique kimchi dishes with collage.
