Kids’ Own Publishing gives children a voice through artist-led collaborative publishing projects

Kids' Own Publishing works in partnership with community organisations, kindergartens, schools, libraries, health services, local councils and arts organisations. We collaborate to design and deliver innovative short and long term creative publishing projects. We are committed to continuously exploring new models for nurturing children's creativity and self belief and to sharing our learning through training, resources and consultancy.

We will be at Convent Kids at the Abbotsford Convent this Saturday running an 8-page book making workshop! This workshop will be facilitated by Kids’ Own artists Sadia Dubow and aastha agrawal

Children and families can drop by at any point between 10:00 - 1 pm to make a book. Alongside our beloved collage materials children can use deconstructed shoes to illustrate their books, courtesy of our crafty friends at This is not a shoe

Please note that tickets to Convent Kids are $10, available on the door.

Jump, splash, and try again in this sailing adventure, written by children and families of the PlayConnect+ playgroup at Dallas Brooks Community Primary School - Community Hub

Sailing, Sailing is a beautiful, lyrical and very blue book written by three young authors and their grown-ups! The families used collage, crayons, and lots of paint to create a book that celebrates the toys, books, songs and games they love about their playgroup.

Thank you to Hume City Council for their continued support and for providing funding for this program. Thank you to Kids’ Own artists Viet-My Bui and Sadia Dubow for facilitating the workshop and thank you to playgroup facilitator Cheryl Pane for her support throughout the program. Finally, huge thanks to Betty Gu for her wonderful work as a designer.

Earlier this year we published Me & Mum, a beautiful book that’s all about the tender moments that mothers and their littles ones share every day.

Me & Mum was written by the children and families of the Learning Together Playgroup in Carlton, many of whom shared their stories in Somali, Oromo, and Arabic. Within its pages you’ll find purple-pink skies, family portraits, and lots of different ways of saying ‘me,’ ‘children’ and ‘Mum.’

We couldn’t have made this book without the support of Readings who provided funding for this program through the incredible Readings Foundation.

A huge thank you to our wonderful partners at Our Place (Our Place), with particular thanks to Partnership Manager Cath Healy and Community Facilitators Khadra Omar and Nagat Abdalla. We are endlessly grateful for Kids’ Own artists Viet-My Bui idilaali and Sadia Dubow for facilitating the workshops, and many thanks to our designer Benjamin Adler Benjamin Allder for bringing it all together.

And with that, the K-Publishing program officially comes to an end! The Big 김치 Quest__김치 대소동 was launched this weekend, and the 53 children who participated are now officially published authors 🎉

The launch was jam-packed with speeches, a live reading, an incredible janggu performance, delicious Korean treats, an exhibition of original artwork, and book signings.

Thank you to everyone who came along! Thank you to the authors, their families, the artists, the guests, the volunteers, cherished friends of KO and the new friends we made on the day! The support was almost overwhelming.

And a special thank you to Kate Kim from the Korean consulate for supporting us in presenting the young authors with their copies of the book.

Although the program has come to an end, the journey is just beginning. We can’t wait to see where this beautiful book goes.
