Anglican Overseas Aid At Anglican Overseas Aid, we long to see the world as God designed it to be, renewed and restored.

Anglican Overseas Aid is an overseas relief and development agency of the Anglican Church of Australia. For more than 30 years the agency has been supporting communities around the world to lift themselves out of poverty regardless of race, religion, sexuality, gender, age or social standing within a community. Our work is motivated by Christian faith and enacted through best-practice development frameworks. We are fully accredited with AusAID and a signatory to the ACFID Code of Conduct. Anglican Overseas Aid’s work is inspired by the gospel of Christ, with a vision for a peaceful, just and sustainable world for all. With this as our goal, we work with Anglican and like-minded agencies to create and strengthen partnerships in developing countries to overcome poverty, injustice and disaster. We support our partners to assist marginalised communities to take control of their own lives and promote community wellbeing. Anglican Overseas Aid’s work is funded and energised through friendships, hard work, a shared Anglican expression of Christian faith and everyday acts of unity. We are extremely grateful for the support we receive and are always seeking opportunities to inspire Australians to become involved and responsible global citizens.

Please join us in prayer for northern Ethiopia. The renewed hostilities are devastating.

We are thinking of the families mourning loved ones and how terrifying it must be for the affected communities.

Widespread looting and disruptions to banking, transport and electricity have made daily life extremely difficult.

Telephone communications were also cut off across Tigray and much of northern Ethiopia for a period. Essential services have since resumed.

‘Thankfully, the situation has begun to improve, following the [calming] of most areas where the fighting had been taking place,’ the Reverend Gidey shares.

He is the director of the Ethiopian Anglican Church Social and Development Organisation, AOA’s partner. We thank God that all staff and team members are safe.

Let's unite in prayer for those grieving, injured, or displaced, and for lasting peace so people can live safely and with dignity.

Young mothers deserve choices. Families, schools and communities have a responsibility to make those choices possible.

This International Day of the Girl, we affirm girls’ and young mothers’ right to make decisions about their health, education and livelihoods.

Made in God’s image, every person deserves dignity, equality and inclusion. This belief guides our work, with a particular focus on women experiencing poverty and marginalisation.

For those offering shelter, we pray for safety.
For those bringing comfort, we pray for peace.
For those caring through difficult days, we pray for strength and rest.

‘My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.’ Psalm 121:2

This month, we bring our partners before God who are working in places affected by conflict and disaster.

Please take a moment to join us in prayer.

Kenneth was living a destructive lifestyle. Eventually, his choices led to a prison sentence, but not even this could change his heart.

Then a fellow inmate introduced Kenneth to Wise Choices For Life, AOA’s partner, and things began to shift.

‘My behaviours created problems without lasting solutions’, Kenneth says.

This period was marked by turmoil and a lack of direction.

Through the WCFL club, Kenneth learnt about his identity in Christ, life skills, critical thinking, decision-making and relationship skills.

Kenneth has been released from prison and now serves his community as a pastor and medical clinical officer.

This Season of Creation has invited us to consider how caring for God’s world and caring for our global neighbours belong together.

People living with drought and climate shocks are seeing changes to the land and water they rely on.

They are conserving water, adapting how they grow food and preparing for future disasters. AOA’s partners support these efforts and listen to what their communities need.

As this season draws to a close, may we hold them in prayer, ask leaders to hear their concerns and keep walking alongside them.

For a deeper reflection on faith and climate change, read this extract from AOA CEO Jo Knight's book, Called to Care:

There is no quick fix for climate change or for its impact on people.

In Kenya, small kitchen gardens are helping families grow food, while children are learning to care for the environment.

Through AOA’s partner, Anglican Development Services, Mt Kenya West Diocese, local leaders are training communities to grow crops with less water.

This Season of Creation, please pray for people living with the effects of climate change and those leading this work.

‘You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly.’ Psalm 65:9

In parts of Kenya, dry seasons make it harder to grow food and keep livestock fed.

Through AOA’s partner, Anglican Development Services, Mt Kenya West Diocese, Mary has learnt how to collect water and prepare for drought.

Mary shared what she learnt with women and men in her community. Water stored in tanks can now be used to grow food, while saved acacia seeds provide fodder for livestock in dry seasons.

Psalm 65 gives thanks for the water that nourishes the earth. This Season of Creation its words can also be a prayer for communities facing drought, as they build climate resilience.

‘I have lost my whole world,’ Jyoti told Krishna, the Executive Director of the International Nepal Fellowship (INF), AOA’s partner.

When Krishna met her at a relief centre near Nepal’s Trishuli River, Jyoti was waiting for news of her five-year-old daughter. Floodwaters had swept away the school bus she was travelling in.

Krishna and his team at INF have supplied more than 400 families with food, hygiene kits, bedding and clothing.

The relief from INF will not ease the pain of a lost child. Nothing can.

But it will sustain Jyoti and her husband as they grieve and begin to navigate their new circumstances.

Please keep families affected by the floods in your prayers. You can support INF’s response here: https://anglicanoverseasaid.org.au/our-work/disaster-response-nepal/

Through tree planting, farming training and water infrastructure, soil is recovering, and water is flowing again.

Alemnesh’s bees produce more honey, her cattle have grass and water, and she can sell honey and milk.

AOA’s partner, the Ethiopian Anglican Church Social and Development Organisation (EACSDO), worked with local communities to restore land affected by drought and erosion.

In Ezekiel 47, water flows from God’s sanctuary into dry places. Trees grow along its banks, bearing fruit for food and leaves for healing. It is a vision of God’s care reaching land, water and people.

This Season of Creation, Alemnesh’s story invites us to value the water and soil our neighbours depend on.

In Genesis 1:2, we read: “And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” Before the earth was filled with life, God’s Spirit was present and at work.

During the Season of Creation, this image reminds us that the world belongs to God and invites us to consider how faithfully we are living within it.

Will you join us in prayer? 🙏
