Abigail* fled her violent marriage with her young son, Max.* No money. No home and no one to turn to.

“I didn’t need help in just one section of my life,” Abigail says. “I needed help with everything.”

Thanks to generous supporters, Wesley Mission caseworker Mikayla walked alongside Abigail every step of the way - finding safe housing, food, clothing, legal support and NDIS help for Max.

Today, Abigail has her boots back on. Max is back at school. And the strength that was always within her is shining through.

Ben and Matt grew up knowing they were Aboriginal but were disconnected from their culture and heritage.

They didn’t know who their mob was – Malgana Yamaji People from Gathaagudu (Shark Bay) – until their dad was on his deathbed. Just days before he passed, a social worker uncovered naval records that gave them clarity about their heritage.

From there, Ben and Matt travelled to Country in Western Australia to find their mob and their grandfather, Frank, who they call ‘Pop’.

“It was so surreal to be there. It really felt like home. It felt like we had an instant belonging to that place,” Matt says.

They learned more of their family’s story – including how their grandfather was taken as a child – and then made an incredible discovery: Pop was alive, living in Sydney, close to them.

For Ben and Matt, reconciliation didn’t erase the pain, but it created something powerful – a path forward. Returning to Country helped them feel “more whole… more at peace” and shaped what they want to pass on to their own families.

This National Reconciliation Week, we’re sharing their story as a reminder: reconciliation starts with truth, listening and connection. 🖤💛❤️

🎥 Watch Ben and Matt’s story and take a moment to reflect on what reconciliation asks of each of us.

Reconciliation lives in people. In stories. In truth. 🖤💛❤️

This National Reconciliation Week, we’re listening to those who live and lead this work every day.

Kathy Donnelly, a proud Uralaroi woman and Wesley Mission’s Reconciliation Action Lead, reminds us that being ‘all in’ isn’t a moment – it’s a daily commitment.

To listen without defensiveness.
To learn with humility.
And to show up.

Reconciliation asks something of all of us.
The question is – are you all in?

Today. 26 May. We pause.

We remember the Stolen Generations.
We remember the children taken from their families.
We remember communities that still carry this loss today.

Today, on National Sorry Day, we face this truth.
We acknowledge what was taken.

Here at Wesley Mission, we stand with survivors, their families and communities. And we commit to walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples towards reconciliation.

Today, and every day. 🖤💛❤️

Not every older person gets visitors.

That’s why Ben volunteers.

A proud Saltwater Malgana man from Shark Bay in Western Australia, Ben was inspired to become a volunteer visitor after caring for his late grandfather – seeing firsthand how much a simple visit can mean.

Now, every fortnight, he spends time with Dennis, having a chat over a cuppa.

Because sometimes, the most powerful thing you can offer is your time and the reminder that someone matters.

Make 2026 your year to do good. One visit and one conversation can help one person feel less alone.

Every afternoon, our OOSH educators show up – fully present, ready for anything, and committed to every child in their care. 💙

That’s why we’ve always ensured two educators are present across all 15 Wesley OOSH locations. Because children deserve more than the minimum.

We’re proud to stand alongside The Y NSW in calling on the NSW Government to make two-educator supervision the standard for every child in outside school hours care across NSW.

Mother’s Day can be joyful, but it can also be hard for some.

Today, we’re holding space for mums who are doing it tough and choosing to keep showing up, despite their circumstances.

When Annie first connected with Wesley Family Preservation, she was carrying a lot – her mental health was low, there was a history of domestic violence and home didn’t feel stable.

“I was stuck,” she says. “I didn’t know how to move forward.”

With time and trust, she opened up to her caseworker, Sarah. Together they set a pace Annie could manage including weekly trauma therapy through Victim Services, support to engage with her GP and help to start medication. When it felt overwhelming, Sarah went with her.

“She meets me where I am,” Annie says. “But the more honest you are, the more support you’ll get.”

The family moved to a better home closer to school. They built simple routines and slowly, things began to feel different.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate all mums, especially those doing the hard work to create safer, stronger futures for their children. 💙

"I wish somebody had just asked me."

So many women say this.

Yesterday was National Domestic and Family Violence Remembrance Day. We remember the women and children whose lives have been taken and stand with those still experiencing violence.

If you see a family member or friend and it's off, talk to them.

It's okay to be the first one to reach out. Yes, it might feel uncomfortable. But ask anyway.

Even in doubt, are you okay?

As a community, we can help prevent this.

Wesley Mission partners with the NSW Department of Communities and Justice & Homes NSW to support women and their children leaving family and domestic violence through The Willow shelter.

This winter, you can help women and children escaping violence find safety.

Yesterday, we paused to remember.
To honour lives lost.
And to stand together in compassion.

“Coming together matters. It reminds people they are not alone and that support is there,” says Andy Moore, Wesley LifeForce General Manager.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our Wesley LifeForce Su***de Memorial Service in Sydney. Together, we held grief and found strength in being present with one another.

Andy spoke with SBS Australia about the importance and strong impact the Government can have on supporting community-focused approaches to su***de prevention. Watch the clip here 👉 https://go.wesleymission.org.au/4vR7E2Z

Meet Shirley 👋

She’s a resident at Frank Vickery Village and the voice behind our new 2GB Sydney radio ad.

A lifelong Sutherland Shire local, Shirley admired Frank Vickery Village from afar for years, never quite knowing what life here might be like. And when Shirley told us her story, we realised that she was the perfect ambassador for our villages.

After living alone for many years, Shirley realised something was missing from her life.

As she says in our ad, “I didn't realise when I retired that it was something that I was missing… and that was company.”

As soon as Shirley walked through the door of our retirement village, she knew “this is where I wanted to be”.

We believe community makes all the difference – it’s at the heart of all our retirement villages. We’re so glad Shirley has found hers.

Thank you, Shirley, for being such a wonderful ambassador for Wesley Mission 💙
