🔬📈Is your interdisciplinary research driving unprecedented change?

There is strength in diversity, especially when disciplines converge.

The Eureka Prize for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Scientific Research is awarded for an outstanding research outcome that was only possible due to the integration of two or more disciplines or bodies of specialised knowledge.

The Eureka Prizes offer an opportunity to platform your work, connect with science leaders and innovators and share “what’s next” in collaborative research.

In this Q&A, Professor Salah Sukkarieh sheds light on the University of Sydney's decision to sponsor the Eureka Prize for Emerging Leader in Science, opening it to an even more diverse and cross disciplinary pool of talented researchers in the disciples of Technology and Engineering.

“In my work, the boundaries between science, technology and engineering tend to disappear as soon as you move into real world deployment,” he says.

“In controlled settings, you can separate theory, algorithms and systems. In the field, particularly where autonomous systems need to operate in areas such as agriculture, mining, first response and the environment, those elements have to operate together.”

What does successful science mentorship look like in the classroom? 🧬

We sat down with science teacher Annie Martin to discuss her long-term success with the School Science Eureka Prizes.

Annie shares her proven strategies for:

💡 Cultivating "passion topics" that keep students engaged
💡 Breaking down filmmaking into manageable, student-led chunks
💡 Creating a space for peer feedback that mimics real-world scientific collaboration

“Science isn't just about results or equations. When we highlight leadership, we put the human story into science." 🧪✨

Read this in conversation with Professor Anita Ho-Baillie, John Hooke Chair of Nanoscience at the University of Sydney, about the evolving landscape of scientific leadership. As a pioneer in next-gen solar technology, Anita believes that recognising leadership is what makes science accessible, inspiring, and deeply connected to society.

In our latest blog Anita discusses:

Why leadership is just as vital as research excellence

Why researchers should step forward for recognition or nominate a colleague!

Read the full blog to see how visionary leadership is at the heart of the next generation of scientific breakthroughs.
