We are focused on enabling women to access responsible finance and the tools to manage money so they can be financially resilient, through good times and bad. We enable women and their families to access opportunity and build financial security. Our focus is providing responsible finance to local entrepreneurs, as well as education and business training to women and other excluded groups to build confidence and financial capability. Lasting progress on gender equality happens when conversation leads to action.

The 3rd Gender Advocates Conference brought together APPEND partner MFIs, gender advocates and leaders to explore how institutions can challenge gender norms, strengthen shared care, and create more inclusive economic opportunities.

Across two days, participants shared lived experiences, examined how GEDSI principles can be embedded into organisational systems, explored communication strategies for norm change, and developed practical roadmaps to sustain advocacy.

Because shifting systems takes more than one initiative. It takes leadership, collaboration and continued commitment.

Today we commemorate Papua New Guinea (PNG) Independence Day by celebrating the incredible women who have taken part in our financial capability coaching over the past four years, since Good Return began working alongside our partners in PNG.

Every woman who participates takes an important step toward greater financial independence, creating intergenerational change and building a more secure future for herself and her family.

As Janine Aringa-Garap, PNG Country Coordinator, shared:

“We are overwhelmed with interest in our financial capability programs. The last round of coaching generated so much interest that I am bombarded with questions on when our next rollout will be.”

The demand is clear - PNG women want the knowledge, skills and confidence to take control of their financial futures. This Independence Day, help us reach more women who are ready to build a more secure future for themselves and their children.

23 years ago today, our founder Guy Winship established Good Return with a powerful belief: that financial and personal empowerment can be a vehicle for intergenerational change - creating pathways out of poverty and towards a more secure future.

Today is International Literacy Day - a day to celebrate the power of knowledge and the right to education for all.

At Good Return, we deliver financial literacy training in all kinds of environments - including high in the mountains of Chitwan District in Chepang, Nepal. This video captures a Consumer Awareness and Financial Empowerment (CAFE) session surrounded by one of the most beautiful backdrops, with a few local roosters providing the soundtrack!

Collaborating with our local partner, Sapana Village Social Impact (SVSI), the women learners featured here are goat, pig and vegetable farmers. Through Good Return’s CAFE curriculum, they are building the skills, confidence and practical tools to take greater control of their household and small business finances, and to build savings for unexpected emergencies.

This International Literacy Day, we’re reminded that financial literacy is a powerful form of learning, empowering people with the ability to make informed decisions and plan for a more secure future. Good Return’s CAFE Initiative is delivered in partnership with the Australian Government through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP).

Listening, learning and improving - that’s how we strengthen our programs at Good Return.

Recently, our team in Cambodia held focus group discussions with learners and coaches involved in our Consumer Awareness and Financial Empowerment (CAFE) program, to identify opportunities to improve future delivery.

The latest CAFE program supported some of Cambodia’s most vulnerable people - young people receiving government cash assistance who are trying to enter the workforce. The six-week financial empowerment curriculum was delivered as part of their course at the Regional Polytechnic Institute Techo Sen Svay Rienc (RPITSSVR), a state institution providing technical and vocational education.

Through the focus groups, our team explored how well learners understood and engaged with the lessons and learning materials, why some learners dropped out and what could be improved in future implementations.

Both coaches and learners shared valuable insights. As Chandara Tou, Good Return’s Financial Empowerment Program Officer, explains in this video, “It was great to hear that the curriculum was highly valuable because it provides the financial skills needed before graduating and entering the workforce, giving them such a strong foundation for managing their future households.”

A big well done to Team Cambodia for continuing to listen, learn and find new ways to strengthen our programs and create lasting impact.

These powerful words from Natasha Short, a Jaru woman and Program Ambassador for Future Weavers, captures the transformative impact of Indigenous women’s leadership, confidence and entrepreneurship.

This Saturday, on International Day of Indigenous Women, we celebrate the strength, voices and leadership of the remarkable First Nations women who are part of the Future Weavers movement - an Indigenous women’s movement building leadership through self-employment and business.

As Natasha explains in this video, “I have seen the organic growth in their confidence. They feel really deadly, but they’re also being inspirational to other women in community.”

Like so many of you, we woke this morning to devastating images coming out of Nepal — and to the news of lives lost in the flooding across Rasuwa, Nuwakot and the river communities below.

We can confirm that our team in Nepal and our partner organisations are safe and accounted for. We are relieved, but mindful that many families are still waiting for news of their own and hold them in our thoughts.

To everyone in Nepal, and to the Nepali community here in Australia and across the world, we’re thinking of you at this difficult time.
