Before nurses face real-life clinical challenges, how can we better prepare them? 🇵🇭🩺

Around 150 participants from more than 40 institutions came together in Intramuros, Manila, to explore the potential of simulation-based learning in Philippine nursing education.

Imagine nursing students practising clinical decisions, teamwork and patient care in realistic, supervised environments before encountering similar situations with actual patients.

That is the promise of simulation: building confidence, strengthening competence and promoting safer patient care.

Who says you cannot start a new career at 69? 🇵🇭❤️🇦🇺⚖️

Meet Ton Escano, who spent nearly 30 years as a registered nurse before retiring to pursue a lifelong dream—becoming a lawyer!

He entered law school in his 60s and, at 69, was admitted to legal practice by the Supreme Court of Victoria.

What an inspiring reminder that dreams do not have an expiry date!

From caring for patients to entering the legal profession, Ton shows us that age need not define our possibilities.

“Unheard Voices of Care: Filipino Nurses in America,” recently hosted at the University of Illinois Chicago, brings the history of Filipino nurse migration to life through artifacts contributed by nurses and families across the Midwest.

From an early nursing uniform reflecting historical expectations of women to a hand-drawn portrait capturing the human relationships behind migration, the exhibit reminds us that Filipino nursing history is also a story of family, sacrifice, identity and belonging.

These stories deserve to be preserved for generations to come.

Imagine moving to another country—not simply to work in a hospital, but to help open one. 🇵🇭🇪🇬
That was the journey of best friends Irene B. Molina and Grace Sayson, two of about 28 Filipino nurses who travelled to Egypt in 1998 to join the pioneering nursing team of Dar Al Fouad Hospital in Cairo.

From preparing critical-care areas to establishing nursing processes and caring for the first patients, they helped build something from the ground up.

Their story deserves a place in our nursing history. It reminds us how Filipino nurses have helped shape healthcare far beyond our shores.

In 1998, a group of about 28 Filipino nurses boarded flights for Egypt to undertake an assignment few of them could fully anticipate. They were not simply being recruited to fill vacancies in an established hospital. They were being brought in to help open one.

Nurse the Dead puts overseas Filipino nurses front and centre, celebrating the people whose care, sacrifice and resilience have become part of healthcare systems worldwide.

Directed by Filipino American filmmaker Mark Labella, the supernatural comedy is described as the first Filipino studio-produced series filmed in Hollywood.

It is wonderful to see Filipino nurses represented not only in healthcare—but increasingly in the stories told about our global community.

For a moment, a hospital corridor in England felt like home. 🇵🇭❤️🇬🇧
At Bedford Hospital, Filipino healthcare colleagues stood together and sang the Philippine national anthem while staff and visitors stopped to listen.

For those who have spent years—or even decades—away from the Philippines, it was an emotional reminder that migration may change where we live and work, but it does not erase identity, culture and belonging.

Thousands of kilometres from home, the Philippines was suddenly very near.

From Riyadh and Jeddah to Al Khobar, Al Ahsa and southern Saudi Arabia, Filipino nurses gathered virtually for the 2nd FiND KSA National Roundtable Meeting.

More than networking, the meeting was about turning connection into collaboration—and collaboration into collective action.

The breadth of expertise in the room was inspiring: clinicians, educators, researchers, administrators, quality and patient-safety professionals, and healthcare leaders.
Together, there is so much more we can build, share and achieve.
