💙💦 SURVIVE & THRIVE – LOOK AT THEM GO! 🇻🇳

Big smiles, growing confidence and some impressive new skills! Our Survive and Thrive kids are loving their swimming lessons, developing vital swimming and water safety skills and achieving something new each week 🏊‍♀️.

We had the chance to see them all in action during our visit to Vietnam a few weeks ago. It was fantastic to see their progress and the enthusiasm of our amazing local swim teachers, whose dedication and commitment make such a difference to these children.

But …. We still have children waiting for a sponsor!

For just $62, you can fund a whole year of weekly swimming lessons, including transport to and from the pool, for a child with disability.

The lessons are well underway, but we still need sponsors to help fund every child’s place in the program.

Some of our current and past Carlile Swim Teachers are in Vietnam this week volunteering with the AWSOM Project to deliver water safety and swimming lessons to communities in the Mekong Delta. Over 2000 people drown each year in Vietnam and this project aims to reduce those horrifying statistics by teaching the community how to swim and be safer around water. Some of our Carlile team members are now doing their ‘adult jobs’ 😉 but come back to their swimming teaching roots each year to participate 🫶❤️ it proves that swimis not just a job, but a passion and something we believe makes communities better, safer and stronger - around the world!

What a night! tonight we were warmly welcomed to the Nhai An School for children with a disability 🫶 We were treated to a beautiful dance performance, home made artwork and gorgeous gifts. We also saw many of our students that we teach in the pool! While there we also donated 200kg of rice and all your amazing bather donations - thank you! ❤️ Seeing our Survive and Thrive kids together and so happy made our hearts content 🫶🦀

Day 1️⃣ was epic! We loved being back on the Mekong and seeing all the kids in the community again ❤️🦀🫶

Day 2️⃣ was our first day back at the schools and the pool! We started the day with a visit to the People’s Committee and a beautiful welcome back to Dao Thanh 🫶 - then onto our first Water Safety presentation with the most amazing welcome including a marching band! 🥁 In the afternoon we welcomed our swimmers back to the pool and smiled the whole afternoon as we taught them all to be safer in the water - bubble by bubble and kick by kick ❤️🦀

Day 1️⃣ was all about getting ready! We travelled from HCMC to the Mekong River where we will run our safety presentations and over the next week. Our local team joined us today and we had a great time with lunch, games and visiting the AWSOM Vietnam office ❤️. Excited for tomorrow to see the kids and get started on the work of helping reduce drownings in Vietnam

🇻🇳 LESS THAN TWO WEEKS TO GO 🇻🇳

Our 2026 AWSOM Project team is ready for Vietnam!

This year, 18 swim teachers, lifeguards and support team members from across Australia will come together to deliver swimming and water safety education in the Mekong Delta.

🏫 Each morning we will be visiting primary schools, delivering fun and practical water safety education.

🏊 Each afternoon we will be in the pool, working directly with children to build swimming and water safety skills and help prevent drowning.

This year our team also includes experienced allied health professionals, who will work specifically with children with disability and provide specialised training and support for local school teachers and swim teachers.
