This Indigenous Literacy Day, we’re celebrating the power of stories to share language, culture and connection 🧡
A beautiful book to explore with little ones is Ninni Yabini, a dual-language picture book written in Noongar and English. This story of a little swan finding her way home celebrates family, belonging and the importance of language and storytelling.
Ninni Yabini also has a special connection to Western Australia. Author Cheryl Kickett-Tucker is a Wadjak-Balladong-Yued Noongar woman, and illustrator Tyrown Waigana is a Wardandi Noongar and Ait Koedhal artist. Their connections to Noongar Country give this beautiful story a strong Western Australian connection.
This Indigenous Literacy Day, consider sharing Ninni Yabini at playgroup or at home and celebrating First Nations stories, languages and storytellers with the little ones in your life 🌿
